After appearing at a panel for his X-Men-based TV series Legion at Comic-Con International in San Diego, series lead Dan Stevens (David Haller) revealed his desire to have Patrick Stewart reprise his Professor X role on the FX series, as his character's father. Stevens noted that he asked Stewart to appear on the series, himself -- though did admit the veteran actor wasn't too familiar with the show.

"Oh god, Patrick Stewart takes a lot of beating and he did seem interested," Stevens told Entertainment Tonight in the wake of his SDCC appearance. "He seemed very unaware of the show, but I mentioned that he was my dad, and he seemed pleasantly surprised."

Legion has yet to directly address David's parentage, though it's been confirmed Season 2 will do so. Showrunner Noah Hawley has said David's heritage is "definitely" something the show wants to tackle soon.

"I think we want to address that," Hawley said. "It's normal when you learn you're adopted to want to know who your real family is. He doesn’t yet know the identity, so I think it will be a process to get there."

"There's quite a lot of explaining there, that your dad is Professor X," Stevens added.

Hawley previously told CBR he's like to have Professor X appear on the show in some capacity, saying, “Were we to want to have Professor X on the show, or even Patrick Stewart on the show, James McAvoy or one of those actors, is a conversation both with the actor and with the studio. So, I don’t know, I haven’t really dived into that quandary yet, but certainly I need to start thinking about it.”

Starring Dan Stevens, Aubrey Plaza, Katie Aselton, Jeremie Harris, Bill Irwin, Rachel Keller and Amber Midthunder, Legion will return for its planned 10-episode second season in early 2018.
