SPOILER WARNING: This article contains major spoilers for “I, Ava,” the latest episode of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow.

In "I, Ava," the latest episode of DC's Legends of Tomorrow, Amaya's granddaughter Kuasa met her end at the hands of Nora Darhk, and that death may have inspired Amaya to alter the course of history.

At the start of the episode, Amaya realized that losing her Anansi totem was impacting her future. As a consequence of that, her granddaughter Mari -- Kuasa's sister -- became a vigilante without her totem, which led her to be injured and her identity outed to the public. When Nate and Wally went to talk to Mari, they discovered Kuasa instead, as she had come to the same realization as Amaya. She agreed to return the Anansi totem to save Amaya and Mari, in exchange for handing Nate over to the Darhks.

When Amaya realized what had happened, she unloaded on Kuasa and told her that she was irredeemable and unworthy of the Anansi totem. This motivated Kuasa to confront the Darhks in the episode-ending battle between them and the Legends. In response, Nora ripped the water totem out of Kuasa, killing her in the process.

Amaya, Nate and Wally were able to escape, but the damage was done. Amaya blamed herself for Kuasa's death. In her guilt, she commandeered the jump ship with a singular purpose: to travel back to Zambesi in 1992.

Vixen fans and the show's audience are sure to recognize the significance of that time and place. In 1992, Zambesi -- Amaya's homeland -- was attacked by a local warlord named Benatu Eshu, who killed Amaya in his pursuit of the Anansi totem. Amaya's daughter fled with Mari and the totem, but Kuasa was left behind in the chaos. Kuasa remained in Zambesi as Mari was adopted and grew up in Detriot. Her time there led her to become bitter and obsessed with finding the totem, as she was originally destined to become the totem bearer.

By traveling to Zambesi in 1992, Amaya likely plans to stop the attack. In doing so, she would rescue Mari and Kuasa from their respective fates -- and perhaps even save herself. However, in doing so, she would radically alter the course of history, perhaps even preventing Mari from becoming Vixen.
