After being a victim of The CW's recent bloodbath, DC's Legends of Tomorrow was canceled after seven seasons, with the now series finale "Knocked Down, Knocked Up" showing the team of superheroes placed under arrest by the Time Police, alongside former Time Police officer Mike AKA Booster Gold, leaving the series on a cliffhanger.

Unfortunately The CW neglected to give the show one final season (and not for the reason you're expecting) to resolve that ending, leaving the fates of the show's popular characters up in the air. But what happens to those characters next, how could their storylines be resolved, and could they appear in one of the remaining Arrowverse shows?

Legends getting arrested

There are a few possible routes that could be taken to give the show an ending, with the obvious being a shorter final season or even a feature-length television movie that would resolve that cliffhanger, and give characters such as Sara Lance the send-off she deserves. For a character that has been a part of the Arrowverse for 10 years, it's extremely sad that she won't receive a proper on-screen ending.

Whilst this is the option that fans would surely prefer, at this point it seems unlikely to occur, with The CW typically announcing final seasons on renewal. So if a final season of six to eight episodes is off the table, as well as an hour and half TV movie, what other options are there for the Legends?

The most likely option is for a crossover event with The Flash. For example, one possible idea could be the incarcerated Legends somehow getting a message to Barry Allen. Barry could then team up with former Legends to free the team from jail and face one final threat together. Considering the shows cross-over regularly, this does seem like a genuine possibility, and it would be a way for The Flash showrunners to honor their fallen comrades by helping them get the closure the cast and fans deserve.

If this isn't possible, perhaps a smaller scale event with one or two Legends characters could also do the trick. For example, Sara and Ava are a possibility, with their relationship being one that fans have loved, and the series finale revealing that Sara is pregnant. The Flash could also do more with Booster Gold (who has already been referenced in the show) being a character that's been anticipated for years, and in a reversal to the other Legends, it's a shame for his story to end before it gets started.

Another character whose storyline could be continued in The Flash is that of Dr. Gwyn Davies, a scientist from the 1920s who invented time travel to save his military unit and boyfriend Alun from being killed in World War One. Gwyn was a character that audiences instantly took to, and it would have been nice to see his storyline continue, perhaps seeing what his creation of time travel could have led to, perhaps with Gwyn forming The Time Masters. With The Flash dealing heavily with time travel and Gwyn being such a new character, fans would love to see him again, or even just get confirmation of his happy ending with Alun.

If the characters' journeys can't be concluded on the screen, there is perhaps another option available. The Arrowverse is no stranger to releasing tie-in media with Arrow, The Flash and Supergirl all having novels and comic book series released. Most recently, there has been the Earth Prime event, a six-issue limited series. This could be applied to Legends, with a six-issue series being a perfect way to end the Season 7 storyline and conclude the characters' journeys. Whilst this isn't ideal, and of course a series or special episode would be the best option, a comic book would still do the job.

As of now, we have no idea what's going to happen to our favorite superhero team, and honestly we may never know. But from glimpses the Legends saw of their possible futures in Season 7, plus wishful thinking by fans, we can hope they all received the endings they deserved.

Perhaps Astra Logue can continue her learning of magic (and run for President), even reuniting with her former mentor John Constantine along the way; Gideon and Gary can live happily ever after; and Spooner Cruz can reunite with her Mother. Whether it's Ava and Sara retiring to raise their daughter, or Zari Tarazi using her global popularity to make the world a better place alongside her brother Behrad, the Legends will continue their fight for justice and continue being legendary.
