Legends of Tomorrow: Zari Debuts Her Costume, Gets Codename

SPOILER WARNING: This article contains major spoilers for “Phone Home,” the latest episode of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow.

Zari has officially joined DC's Legends of Tomorrow. In "Phone Home," the latest episode, the newcomer debuted her very own Legends costume: a white coverall with flared sleeves, a thick gold belt and her amulet.

Zari stepped out in her Legends uniform at the end of the episode when the team went trick-or-treating with young Ray. Each member of the team donned their iconic outfit and stood behind young Ray, who had fashioned his own proto-Atom suit, in order to ward off some of his bullies. Though she appeared confident, she later admitted to the team she felt a little ridiculous. However, she'll have plenty of time to grow into the outfit as Season 3 continues.

As with the other Legends' costumes, Zari's outfit is loosely based on her superhero suit from her original television series The Secrets of Isis, which debuted in 1975. The character also starred in her own DC Comics title (below), which ran for just eight issues from 1976 to 1978. The publisher reintroduced the character in 2002 as a goddess and then, in 2006, as an Egyptian woman named Adrianna Tomaz (an homage to Andrea Thomas) who in the series 52 is given the magical Amulet of Isis by Black Adam and Captain Marvel, which imbued her with a range of abilities, including healing and control over nature.

Zari got a new nickname in addition to her new costume. As the episode wound down, she played a game with adult Ray: Two Truths and A Lie. She offered him a few facts about herself, including her childhood nickname: Z. Ray was quick to use the nickname and invited her to watch a movie with him. It's unclear at this time if Zari will become known as Z in the field, though this seems likely.

Airing Tuesdays at 9 pm EST/PT on The CW, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow stars Victor Garber as Martin Stein, Arthur Darvill as Rip Hunter, Dominic Purcell as Mick Rory/Heat Wave, Caity Lotz as Sara Lance/White Canary, Franz Drameh as Jefferson “Jax” Jackson/Firestorm, Brandon Routh as Ray Palmer/Atom, Maisie Richardson-Sellers as Amaya Jiwe/Vixen, and Nick Zano as Nate Heywood/Steel.
