By this point, fans of DC's Legends of Tomorrow should be rather familiar with the budding romance between John Constantine (Matt Ryan) and Zari Tarazi (Tala Ashe), with the two having officially solidified their relationship in Season 6's "The Ex-Factor." Given what we know about Constantine as a character, however, Ryan thinks his newfound romance -- and his entire association with the Legends, for that matter -- was doomed from the start.

"But people are expecting a similar kind of happy ending for Constantine," Legends executive producer/co-showrunner Phil Klemmer said during the show's panel at Comic-Con@Home. "I don't know if that's necessarily in the cards. That's hard for us writers because, like, you know, we want... we love Constantine and Zari as a couple but, like, clearly there's not a smooth path forward."

"I think the way for that to be enjoyable, as well, for them, in the back of my head -- especially playing him... and knowing that John... you know, it's not gonna last," added Ryan. "Something's gonna happen where, you know, the guy on this journey with the Legends, all of it, is not gonna work out. Because that's not in John's DNA, unfortunately. And that's, as you said, felt part of his character."

To that point, Klemmer has already affirmed that the ongoing Legends of Tomorrow Season 6 will mark the end of Constantine's time on the show, with Ryan stating: "The time has come for John to part ways with the Legends, and for me to part ways with John." However, while Ryan is saying goodbye to the Hellblazer for the time being, he is still slated to appear in Legends Season 7 as a new character named Dr. Gwyn Davies, an "eccentric scientist from the early 20th century."

Ryan began playing iconic DC/Vertigo Comics character John Constantine on the NBC series Constantine, which ran for a single season from 2014 to 2015. Ryan subsequently reprised the role on The CW's Arrow before becoming a main cast member on Legends of Tomorrow. He has also voiced the character in a number of animated projects, namely Justice League Dark, Constantine: City of Demons, Constantine: City of Demons – The Movie and Justice League Dark: Apokolips War.

Legends of Tomorrow airs Sundays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW. Season 6's most recent episode, "Bad Blood," aired on July 18. The show will return for new episodes, starting with "The Final Frame," on Aug. 8.
