After an action-packed sophomore season that hopped from one decade to another, the CW's "Legends of Tomorrow" is heading towards its climactic season finale. The CW has released the synopsis for the season finale episode, an installment titled "Aruba." The synopsis, seen below, teases big events ahead for the crew of the Waverider, while also playing it close to the vest when it comes to specifics. “Aruba” — (8:00-9:00 p.m. ET) (Content Rating TBD) (HDTV)

SEASON FINALE — As the Legends are about to take off for their next destination, a massive timequake rocks the ship. In order to try and fix what has happened, they are forced to break the one cardinal rule of time travel. But if they are able to destroy the spear, they will face the ultimate consequence. Victor Garber, Brandon Routh, Arthur Darvill, Caity Lotz, Dominic Purcell, Franz Drameh, Nick Zano and Maisie Richardson-Sellers. Rob Seidenglanz directed the episode written by Phil Klemmer & Marc Guggenheim (#217). Original airdate 4/4/2017.”

The synopsis doesn't mention the fact that "Lord of the Rings" author J.R.R. Tolkien is possibly making an appearance in the episode. Executive producer Marc Guggenheim shared a cast list for the season finale episode, titled "Aruba," on Twitter. The cast list includes all the usual suspects, like the "Legends" team and the members of the Legion of Doom. It also includes a surprise guest star: J.R.R. Tolkien, played by Jack Turner (Freeform's "Stitchers").

We don't actually know if this is the J.R.R. Tolkien or just another person with that incredibly specific and unique name. Tolkien was born in 1892 and passed away in 1973, meaning the Legends could be traveling to any point in-between those two years. Notably, Tolkien served in the British Army during World War I. And while the synopsis doesn't mention it, the previously released cast list also includes previous Arrowverse regulars Wentworth Miller and Katie Cassidy. Both Leonard Snart (Miller) and Laurel Lance (Cassidy) are currently dead after events of recent seasons. Whether or not these characters are visions, alternate Earth counterparts or part of a flashback or jaunt the characters take to the recent past remains unknown.

Airing Tuesdays at 9 pm ET/PT on The CW, "DC's Legends of Tomorrow" stars Brandon Routh as the Atom, Victor Garber and Franz Drameh as Firestorm, Caity Lotz as White Canary, Maisie Richardson-Seller as Vixen, Dominic Purcell as Heatwave and Nick Zano as Citizen Steel.
