Sara Lance has been an integral part of Legends of Tomorrow since its inception, serving as the team's captain. However, the Legends find themselves without a leader in Season 6 as Sara has been abducted by aliens. This ends up affecting them in many ways, and not for the better.

Executive producers Phil Klemmer, Keto Shimizu, and Grainee Godfree discussed the upheaval during the Legends DC FanDome panel. "I feel like Sara's kind of one of the grounding influences on the show," Godfree said. "The other might be Zari 1.0, but because she's in a totem, everyone's going a little bonkers in her absence. So we really looked at this season in terms of, what would it do to people to have Sara missing?"

"Yeah, and I think Ava obviously would be a worthy replacement, but she obviously takes Sara's absence the hardest and she starts to get a little bit frayed around the edges as well, so it leaves a bit of a power vacuum, which, you know, unlikely people have to step up to fill," Klemmer added. Klemmer had discussed in a previous interview how Sara and Ava's relationship would be tested by the abduction.

Shimizu assured viewers that Sara would still play an integral part in Season 6. "We will be tracking her adventure even as she's separated from the team."

During the Season 5 finale, "Swan Thong," Sara was beamed up into a spaceship. The Legends will wind up encountering a new member during the search for their leader: Esperanza "Spooner" Cruz (Lisseth Chavez), who survived an alien encounter and claims to have psychic powers.

DC's Legends of Tomorrow stars Caity Lotz, Dominic Purcell, Nick Zano, Tala Ashe, Matt Ryan, Olivia Swann and Jes Macallan. Season 6 will premiere in 2021 on The CW.
