SPOILER WARNING: This article contains major spoilers for "The Curse of the Earth Totem," the latest episode of DC's Legends of Tomorrow.
DC's Legends of Tomorrow just lost track of something very important: Ray "The Atom" Palmer. In "The Curse of the Earth Totem," the latest episode, Damien and Nora Darhk were able to steal both Ray and Amaya's spirit totem away from the Legends.
As Sara went for a date with Time Bureau Agent Ava Sharpe, the other Legends took a trip to 1717 in an effort to track down the Earth totem. There, they ran into the Darhks. Surprised and unprepared, the Legends were unable to fight back as Damien used his powers to freeze Amaya and take her totem, leaving her powerless. However, Mick Rory helped Amaya rally, and the two convinced Blackbeard and his crew to pursue the Darhks in search of Blackbeard's treasure.
Naturally, both the Darhks and Amaya's pirate crew arrived at Blackbeard's treature -- and the Earth totem -- at the same time. This resulted in major battle, in which Ray used his anti-magic gun for the first time. This proved effective against Nora, but with a deadly side effect, as the blast would ultimately kill Nora.
Because he had bonded with Nora as a child in "Daddy Darhkest," Ray felt guilty about her impending death and developed a cure. He went back in time to moments after the Legends left and offered the cure in exchange for Amaya's totem. Damien agreed to those terms, only to betray Ray at the last moment. The two followers of Mallus then kidnapped Ray and absconded to another time with both him and Amaya's totem.
At the time of writing, the Darhks possess two totems: fire and spirit. The Legends, on the other hand, have wind and Earth. Two totems remain unaccounted for. These totems are the only things powerful enough to stop the demon Mallus.
Airing Mondays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow stars Arthur Darvill as Rip Hunter, Dominic Purcell as Mick Rory/Heat Wave, Caity Lotz as Sara Lance/White Canary, Brandon Routh as Ray Palmer/Atom, Maisie Richardson-Sellers as Amaya Jiwe/Vixen, Nick Zano as Nate Heywood/Steel and Keiynan Lonsdale as Wally West/Kid Flash.
