The Flash's Kid Flash may step in to fill the gap left behind by Firestorm on DC's Legends of Tomorrow. At the Television Critics Association winter press tour, The CW president Mark Pedowitz hinted that Wally West will put in an appearance on the time-traveling series.
"You might see Wally West [Keiynan Lonsdale] show up on Legends," Pedowitz told BlackGirlNerds when Firestorm's exit was brought up. Asked if Wally will become a permanent member of the team, he said, "You’ll have to watch!"
In "Crisis on Earth-X," this year's four-show Arrowverse crossover, Martin Stein was killed in action. Before he passed away, he split from the Firestorm matrix and Jax, effectively leaving him powerless. Jax subsequently struggled with not only his place on the team, but the way it reminded him of his late partner. He ultimately made the decision to step down from the Legends so that he could process Martin’s death and come to terms with it. After his team threw him a Christmas-themed goodbye party, they dropped him off in Central City in 2017, where he chose to stay.
Last month, executive producer Marc Guggenheim confirmed that Firestorm would be replaced with “a previously established character from the Arrowverse.” While there are plenty of characters to choose from between Supergirl, The Flash and Arrow, Wally West has been made particularly available due to the events on his series.
Over on The Flash, Wally has gone through a few struggles of his own. He left the team and Central City for Blue Valley in order to focus on himself. He returned for Barry and Iris' wedding, but only stuck around long enough to keep guard of his father and sister when Nazis from Earth-X invaded. The character was shelved from the show due to the financial strain of having two speedsters, though “more exciting” stuff was teased for his future.
