Legends of Tomorrow Season 6 kicked off with the Legends discovering Sara had been kidnapped by aliens near the end of the Season 5 finale. This prompted them to seek out Esperanza "Spooner" Cruz, a woman who claims to have been abducted by extraterrestrials and now appears to have some kind of mysterious psychic connection to them.

At the same time, Sara broke free from her containment pod aboard her captors' spaceship, only to discover that one of the aliens onboard was none other than Gary. As the latter explained, he was sent to Earth years ago to find a "quintessential" human, but has since developed a love for humanity and wants to help her escape. Unfortunately, things didn't work out and the pair ended up dispersing the other non-human prisoners on the ship throughout Earth's Temporal Zone, sending them to different points in the past.
