WARNING: The following contains spoilers for DC's Legends of Tomorrow Season 6, Episode 8, "Stressed Western," which aired Sunday on The CW.

Following the events of "The Satanist's Apprentice," John Constantine was left powerless. While he still knows all the words and moves associated with magic, his connection to the magical realm is missing. John tried his best to re-learn magic along with Astra, but she has an advantage over him because her mother was a witch, meaning she has some residual magic from her. The Constantine bloodline did have a few magicians but they are far too distant to give John any hereditary magic. As a result, John has to find new ways to recharge himself, and his first clue was revealed on this week's Legends of Tomorrow.

During "The Satanist's Apprentice," John got into an argument with famous occultist Aleister Crowley following the magical cleansing that depowered him. Before being hidden away in the attic of John's house, Crowley brought up the Fountain of Imperium, which legend says will supercharge any magician and could restore Constantine to his full strength. While John pushed the occultist's idea aside, the growing weight of the situation forced his hand. As he tried to learn magic along with Astra, he failed to make any progress. He fears what might happen to the world if word got out that the famous John Constantine is powerless, and so he has made it his mission to find the fountain.

With the team now in one piece, John had the chance to reconnect with his old apprentice, Gary Green, who, since their last meeting, was revealed to be an alien. In "Stressed Western," John confronted Gary, asking him if he knew anything about the fountain. Gary freaked out, trying to dismiss the fountain as just a myth while staring at John worriedly.

As the mission went on, John continued to pester Gary until he had enough and let John know that using the fountain is dangerous, with no one having survived the journey back. Gary also told John that a map to the Fountain of Imperium exists, but its significance is hidden to human beings while alien creatures are able to read and understand it. He also let slip that the one human being that found the map happens to spend his time in Constantine's attic. Gary wished John well, knowing that if anyone could make the journey to the fountain and live to tell the tale, it was him.

By the end of the Legends of Tomorrow episode, John packed his things and started heading out of the Waverider to ask Aleister for the location of the fountain. As he left, Zari wished him luck on his travels, splitting the new couple apart for a short period of time. Gary's warnings are warranted considering without his powers, there is no guarantee John will make it to the Fountain of Imperium and back. However, John has been through hell and back (literally) and so, there is hope he will return to the Waverider with all his magic restored and enhanced.

DC's Legends of Tomorrow stars Caity Lotz, Dominic Purcell, Nick Zano, Tala Ashe, Matt Ryan, Olivia Swann, Jes Macallan, Adam Tsekhman, Shayan Sobhian, Lisseth Chavez and Raffi Barsoumian. Season 6 airs Sundays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
