After the announcement that DC's Legends of Tomorrow would not return for an eighth season, cast and crew members of the series are sharing their farewell messages with fans over social media.

The news that Legends of Tomorrow was cancelled came on Friday through the LoTWritersRoom official Twitter on Friday, which shared an open letter saying, "Alright, sit down. This is gonna hurt." It goes on to explain that The CW had not renewed the series and that those involved would "desperately miss creating this show, but most of all we will miss getting to make it together and sharing it with you."

The same Twitter account followed up later with the reveal of four pages from upcoming tie-in comic Earth-Prime #3, noting, "If you're as bummed about our cancellation as we all are, we hope this comic (out Tuesday, May 3rd at your local US comic shop) will bring you some measure of joy!"

Many of Legends of Tomorrow's stars shared heartfelt messages and videos to say goodbye to the roles they had played and to express their gratitude for the experience. Tala Ashe, who played Zari Adrianna Tomaz, posted a collection of photos on her Instagram, saying, "For a moment in time, I got to play a superhero (the first Muslim-American live-action one at that!)... This show changed my life and I will treasure the relationships I made for the rest of my life."

Meanwhile, Sara Lance actor Caity Lotz shared a video in her Instagram stories in which she admitted how sad she was that Legends is ending, but also said that she recognized she was lucky to have been on it, and thanked all the fans for watching. Shayan Sobhian, who played Behrad Tarazi, went so far as to record a video on his Instagram of himself performing a song about the "news today that almost made me cry."

Keto Shimizu, executive producer and co-showrunner on Legends, tweeted to say, "We are heartbroken, but also immensely grateful for the amazing work our cast, crew, and writers have contributed to the little show that could," and likewise thanked the fans for their support. Marc Guggenheim, a producer and writer on multiple Arrowverse series, shared a brief tweet saying, "Tough day," not only in reference to Legends but the same-day cancellation of Batwoman and the passing of comics legend Neal Adams.

Legends of Tomorrow premiered in early 2016 as a spinoff series featuring characters from both Arrow and The Flash and adding several new ones. On March 2 this year, Legends wrapped up its seventh season with its 110th episode, "Knocked Down, Knocked Up," which was notable for introducing the classic DC character Booster Gold to the Arrowverse.
