Although best known for bringing big action franchises like Godzilla and Pacific Rim to theaters, Legendary is quickly ramping up its television division as well.

Today, Legendary TV announced via Variety that it has acquired the rights to sci-fi author John Scalzi's bestseller Lock In. The novel depicts a world rocked by a virus that leaves 5 million people completely paralyzed yet alive only to see the afflicted gain bizarre mind-control powers, all wrapped up in an murder investigation plot. It's a high-concept thriller that seems a perfect match for serialized expansion the same way HBO has found success with The Leftovers.

This pick-up marks only the latest move by Legendary TV, which has aggressively turned its attention to development since bringing on former Warner Bros. TV Group chief Bruce Rosenblum last year. Aside from Lock In, the company also has a new show in the works from Chuck creator Chris Fedak. No word yet exists on what network -- or digital platform -- either series will debut on.
