Eagle-eyed shoppers noticed that packaging for several toys tied to the upcoming "Kong: Skull Island" boast the moniker "MonsterVerse," making canon the term already used by some fans to refer to the shared world that includes not only 2014's "Godzilla" and March's King Kong origin story, but also the announced "Godzilla: King of Monsters" and "Godzilla vs. Kong."

Set in the 1970s, “Kong: Skull Island” centers on a team of soldiers and explorers who venture into a mysterious island in the Pacific Ocean that's home to not only the mythic Kong, but also myriad other monsters. The film boasts the largest version of King Kong to ever be depicted on screen.
