The SNES gem The Legend of Zelda: A Link To the Past, is nothing short of a masterpiece. In April of 1992, the iconic The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past hit stores in North America, and the game has been beloved ever since. Many deem this as one of the best Zelda titles because of how nuanced it is. The fact Link can travel between two worlds by using a magic mirror is mind-blowing. This feature is so well received, Nintendo brings it back in the sequel game A Link Between Worlds on the 3DS, over twenty years later.

Despite how amazing the split world feature is, it's not the main selling point of the game. ALTTP is layered with so many side quests and special items that will keep the player invested for years to come. It makes one wonder how this game came out in '92, considering that it so ahead of its time. A few things were probably only noticed by kids from the era.

Many Zelda fans found this bizarre when first playing the game. Link’s hair is pink when he is usually a blonde.

Many seem to think the developers made a mistake. Others believe they did this because other colors for Link’s hair didn’t work. Either way, it was something out of the ordinary.

9 The World Is Huge

Everyone loves how expansive the world of Breath of The Wild is. The world is so massive it entices the player go out and venture. The same can be said for A Link to the Past. Since being a '90s title, many may overlook the game's map. People that have played the game, however, will beg to differ. ALTTP offers so much exploration, it's crazy.

There are so many hidden passageways that contain so many important items, such as the Fire Rod or Cane of Byrna. In addition to Hyrule, this game has another world that’s worth exploring: the Dark World. Seeing that Dark World is parallel to that of Hyrule, it has a very similar map.

8 The Golden Bee Is The Best Thing Ever

The Legend of Zelda is known for its odd features and one of them is bees. If Link catches a bee, he can use it to attack enemies, which does come in handy when fighting multiple foes. The Golden Bee, however, far exceeds a regular bee. This one doesn’t fly away like the other bees.

Moreover, Link can reuse it by capturing it. They can be obtained in the Ice Cave by dashing into the Fairy Fountain. Again, having a bee comes in handy when the player doesn’t want Link to get to close an enemy or waste any ammunition. It’s the best thing ever.

7 The Cane of Byrna Is Your Best Friend

The Cane of Byrna is quite a useful item. It allows the user to become impervious to damage. The downside, however, is that it depletes Links magic meter.

This item becomes rather essential when Link is fighting in boss battles. The bosses in this game do some heavy damage to Links' health. The Cane of Byrna can be obtained in a cave on Death Mountain, in the Dark World.

6 The Item Screen Is A Pain

ALTTP is filled to the brim with items. As fans of the game know, Link's item list is a chore to navigate through. The player must constantly pause the game to switch out items. Later games such as Ocarina of Time, the player has the option of having three items out at one time.

This makes any situation advantageous for Link. If he needs a bomb to fight a boss, he doesn’t have to keep pausing his fight to locate it. ALTTP is a great game, but fans can agree the item screen is a bit much.

Link will constantly get knocked off of platforms in this game and it gets rather annoying. In ALTTP, a few of the dungeons are towers. In order to complete the entire tower, Link has to use specific keys and items while avoiding getting knocked off by enemies. Some enemies are specifically designed to knock Link off the platform.

For example, Hardhat Beetles are some of the main enemies that do this. Once a player falls from the platform, he or she basically must waste time by going back up to that same floor. The player deals with this issue even when fighting a boss. In Ganon's Tower, players must avoid getting close to the edge or else.

4 You Can Upgrade Your Boomerang

Upgrades are very common in this game; in fact, there are upgrades for items many may not have been aware of. The boomerang is one of those items. If Link tosses his boomerang into the Waterfall of Wishing, this fairy will upgrade it. It's known as the Magical Boomerang.

The sheer fact the player could upgrade Link's boomerang shocked fans. Chances are many '90s kids came across this upgrade by mere coincidence. The Magical Boomerang can also be obtained in the Village of Outcast in the Dark World.

3 The Master Sword Can Be Upgraded Multiple Times

The Master Sword is one of the most powerful weapons in the game, so it’s alarming to find out that this blade can be upgraded not once, but twice.

If the player completes the quest of reuniting these two swordsmiths, they will upgrade Master Sword to the Tempered Sword. To get the final sword, Golden Sword, Link must throw his sword in the pond, which is in the Pyramid of Power in the Dark World.

2 The Title Of Game Has Nothing To Do With The Plot, Whatsoever

When everyone first picked up The Legend of Zelda A Link to the Past back in the '90s, they were expecting that the story had something to do with time travel, seeing that title is called A Link to the Past.

There is another world that’s parallel to Hyrule, but no time travel or anything close to it within the game. It's been confirmed that the game was initially called The TriForce Gods, but Nintendo of America changed it to A Link To The Past because of the religious reference.

1 Some Of The Best Items In The Game Are Actually Optional

Since the world of A Link to the Past is so large, it contains a vast number of items. Some of these items in fact, optional, and are not required to complete the main game.

The Bombos Medallion (pictured), Cane of Byrna, and Magic Cape are a few of the optional items. The developers want to reward the player for exploring every single nook and cranny of the game.
