After a long wait, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker and Twilight Princess remastered editions for the Nintendo Switch may finally be on the horizon.VGC editor Andy Robinson revealed the news on Twitter, noting that the classic Zelda games will be available sometime this year after the July release of The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD. Robinson first made the announcement in Feb. but has since updated it, adding "predicting dates is a fool's game and I should never have used '100%' in the original tweet. Zelda fans, sit tight."RELATED: Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD Remake Locks Fast-Travel Behind an Amiibo

With no indication of when more remasters will arrive, many hoped that Nintendo's E3 2021 showcase would bring updates. Nintendo announced numerous upcoming releases during the 40-minute Direct stream, including Mario Golf: Super Rush and the much-anticipated Metroid Dread. Neither Twilight Princess nor The Wind Waker were mentioned but with the imminent release of Skyward Sword HD, it's possible Nintendo could be saving the announcements for later in the year.

For Legend of Zelda fans in particular, E3 2021 brought some exciting news. Over four years after its release, Breath of the Wild will finally have a sequel. Nintendo revealed more gameplay footage of Breath of the Wild 2, with a release scheduled for 2022.

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD was first announced earlier this year to celebrate the game's tenth anniversary and the 35th anniversary for The Legend of Zelda franchise. Compared to Wind Waker and Twilight Princess, Skyward Sword is a more recent game, which may explain the remaster's quicker development. The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker was originally released in late 2002, while The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess launched in 2006.

Developed and published by Nintendo, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD launches on July 16 for the Nintendo Switch.
