The Legend Of Korra is an awesome series, packed full of exciting characters and a great story of growth and development. While it's still considered to be lacking as a sequel series to Avatar: The Last Airbender, it's still great thanks to its action-packed episodes and deep storytelling.

One of the most intriguing aspects of the show is the brilliant writing of the series' villains. Within its span of four seasons, The Legend Of Korra introduced fans to a host of villains, all of whom originally fought for a noble cause but ended up taking their ideologies too far. A lot of them had the potential to become great heroes and fans actually hoped they'd see the error in their ways.

6 Tarrlok Didn't Live To Be The Hero Fans Wished He'd Be

The Legend Of Korra Tarrlok

Tarrlok didn't want to be a villain; he just wanted to free Republic City from all the troubles that plagued it. Growing up, Tarrlok endured his father Yakone's harsh training and cruel reprimanding. When he eventually became a leading figure in Republic, he unknowingly became a mirror of his father and, before long, he was a menace. He would stop at nothing to seize power for himself. His hunt for the Equalists was but a glorious vanity project.

Tarrlok eventually became an enemy Korra and her friends had to take down. Despite all this, there was a hint of goodness in Tarrlok and after watching Korra and Tarrlok fight together, fans couldn't help but wonder if it was something that would be recurrent in the series. Fans began to like him even more when he revealed who Amon truly was. Unfortunately, fans never got to see Tarrlok in his full glory, as he blew himself up and took Amon with him.

5 Zaheer Could Have Helped The Air Nation Grow Greatly

The Legend Of Korra Zaheer looking through a prison cell

Zaheer fought for freedom. He firmly believed that he was chosen to restore freedom to mankind. Where his thoughts got a little twisted was when he focused on eliminating world leaders in order to throw nations into disarray. In his own words, Zaheer believed that "The natural order is disorder." This "natural order" was what he set out to achieve and sum up by eliminating the Avatar forever. Zaheer was a non-bender who gained the powers of airbending thanks to Harmonic Convergence, and he became incredibly skilled in a matter of weeks.

He even achieved what Aang, Tenzin, and several other airbending masters before could only dream of: the ability to fly. While airbenders make use of gliders to fly, Zaheer learned to fly without a glider, making him one of the trickiest villains to take down in the franchise. Zaheer could have helped the Air Nation by training new airbenders, and since he'd studied their culture for years, he could have made a great substitute teacher for the new airbenders. Not to mention that he could have been a really helpful fighter, capable of snuffing out villains the world over.

4 Amon Wasted His Rare Talents As A Villain

The Legend Of Korra's Amon giving a speech.

Amon was the main antagonist of the first season of The Legend Of Korra. He was so powerful that it was shocking no one had heard of him before. Despite being a waterbending and bloodbending prodigy, Amon really believed that bending was an evil art that tarnished the world and made non-benders feel inferior. He fought for equality and began by starting a war in Republic City. Amon had found a way to take a person's bending away using bloodbending, making him one of the deadliest benders in the franchise.

During his backstory, his true name was revealed to be Noatak. He was a gentle and caring brother to Tarrlok and didn't care much for the way their father trained them. After mastering bloodbending, he turned on his father and ran away. Fans couldn't help but wonder at what point Noatak became Amon, and what made him the villain he became when he could have been a really great protagonist.

3 Tahno Could Have Been A Great Member Of Team Avatar

The Legend Of Korra Tano preparing to fight

Tahno was a pro-bender and had led his team, The Wolfbats, to victory several times albeit through unconventional means. He went up against the Fire Ferrets in the finals of the Championship Tournament and fans could see how underhanded and sneaky he could be.

Despite the fact that he cheated his way to victory, no one can deny that Tano is still a relatively skilled waterbender. Later on in the series, after falling victim to Amon, Tahno asked Korra to get revenge on his behalf. This was when fans began to feel pity for Tahno, as he really didn't deserve to be written off like that. He would have made a fantastic addition to Team Avatar and helped them take down villains.

2 The Lieutenant Would Have Been Better Off Serving Someone Else

The Legend Of Korra The Lieutenant

Known as Lieutenant, this man was Amon's second in command and his right hand. He carried out a lot of tasks for Amon, and he was always crucial for Amon's plans to work. He was a master martial artist and was able to not just keep up with powerful benders, but defeat them completely. His use of electricity to stun his opponents was very effective.

Like Amon, the Lieutenant hated bending because of how it unbalanced the society and dedicated his life to fighting for Amon. He felt greatly betrayed when he realized that Amon was a bender. Unfortunately, he was killed by Amon at this realization. The Lieutenant would have made a great hero in the story had he been written differently, especially when he realized that he was fighting for a noble cause in the wrong way.

1 Kuvira Shouldn't Have Coveted The Entire Earth Kingdom

The Legend Of Korra Kuvira

Kuvira, AKA The Great Uniter, took on the responsibility of reuniting the Earth Kingdom after Zaheer tore it apart from the inside out. She conquered cities, rid them of bandits and barbarians, and actually managed to piece the Earth Kingdom back again. The problem was that Kuvira was a military dictator and she more or less took the Earth Kingdom by force from the rightful heir. Kuvira was an inspirational figure to her men, and they were willing to lay their lives on the line to fight for her.

Kuvira's soldiers' dedication owes to the fact that Kuvira convinces people to join her cause by making them see reason in what she was fighting for. She never forced anyone to join, but she'd force them to stay. She also didn't take kindly to anyone who wasn't of Earth Kingdom origin. Despite all this, Kuvira still accepted defeat at the hands of Korra and even agreed to stand trial for her crimes. It would have been better for everyone if she just stepped down after fulfilling her duties as The Great Uniter.
