Turf Wars takes place after the events of the Legend of Korra series and features Asami and Korra working on their relationship while dealing with the fallout from Kuvira's attack on Republic City. Series co-creator Michael Dante DiMartino wrote the three-part graphic novel, with art by Irene Koh.

Turf Wars was followed by Ruins of the Empire, which saw Korra and her friends dealing with a new threat in the Earth Kingdom. Both series received critical acclaim for fleshing out the Avatar universe, as well as Korra and Asami's relationship.
