Book One of Legend Of Korra introduced the world to the continuation of the Avatar series. In addition to meeting the title protagonist, it presented an opportunity to glean the many unique ways the world had changed since it was last seen and the complications which arise as a result.

The story followed Korra's quest in defeating the villainous Amon, a man who leads the Equalist movement on a crusade to rid the world of bending. By discerning the inconsistencies of the plot, its narrative flaws can be appreciated along with its excellence.

10 The Bending Arena Referee

legend of korra bending arena

Pro bending was a sport in which benders were matched against one another with the intent to knock their opponents off of the platform. During the Fire Ferrets' final match, the enemy team had clearly paid off the referee in order to make calls in their favor, to such an extent that even the announcer was frequently gawking over his poor judgment.

Nonetheless, the game was never halted, nor were the referee's decisions questioned despite the clear misconduct shown in the arena. Given the magnitude of the event, it's unusual that at least two judges would not be appointed.

9 Amon's Plan To Rid The World Of Bending

republic city amon

Amon's plan was to rid the world of bending forever. He would accomplish this through teaching his revolutionaries martial combat so that they were able to dodge fire and even force the Avatar on the retreat.

One thing that the villain could not tell his henchmen, however, was how to take away one's powers, and this was because it required bloodbending - a skill only he possessed. Therefore, should his revolution be successful, he would be singularly responsible for eliminating the bending of millions of people by himself - a task he could not hope to realistically accomplish.

8 Beifong's Agreement With Tenzin About Korra

Lin Beifong

When Lin Beifong was introduced, it was to arrest and detain the Avatar for street violence she had participated in. After Tenzin came to pick her up, it was under the premise that he would keep her in his custody and under a watchful eye.

Nonetheless, this promise clearly wasn't fulfilled, as Korra would participate on the Fire Ferrets team. Moreover, the airbender was not capable of keeping this secret from Beifong, as they had both watched one of her matches. The police chief even questioned him about his alleged approval, to which he quickly dismissed.

7 Amon's Tenzin Spectacle

Legend Of Korra: Tenzin serious expression

Amon captured Tenzin and his entire family, rallying his followers under the premise that by publicly eliminating his powers, he would be ridding the world of airbending once and for all.

There is an obvious flaw to this claim. Taking away one's bending does not prevent them from bearing offspring which are capable of it, as seen through the Avatar's denial of Yakone's power. Thus, Amon should know better than anyone else that the only way to eradicate airbending is not to steal it from Tenzin's family, but to slaughter them all instead.

6 The Police Uniforms Were Made Of Steel Despite Their Weakness To Electricity

Lin Beifong, Police Chief Legend Of Korra

As metalbenders, the police preferred to wear steel uniforms. This would provide them considerable protection against most of the threats they faced and signify their status toward the discerning public.

However, the Equalists would capitalize on this through their gauntlets, using electricity in order to conduct metal and amplify the damage done against its wearer. This was a skill employed dozens of times against Beifong's forces, yet the commissioner refused to adapt - even during the final Fire Ferrets tournament, where they were expecting Equalist retaliation.

5 Hiroshi Sato's Partnership With The Equalists

Hiroshi Sato in Legend of Korra

Hiroshi Sato was the former president of Future Industries and an adamant advocate for the Equalists. Though one might be able to believe that he could fund the rebels without risking scrutiny, he was particularly careless about his intentions to the extent where he raised his voice about his plans in his office knowing that the Avatar was currently visiting.

Further, there was a massive operation beneath his own mansion to arm dozens of gigantic drones for the inevitable assault. With such a large undertaking and a careless mind behind it, someone in his company should have exposed him for a massive reward long before the Avatar ever had the chance.

4 Amon's Resistance Against Bloodbending

Tarrlok Avatar Villains

During their confrontation, Tarrlok had attempted to use his bloodbending against Amon to stop the villain in his tracks. To his horror, he realized his power was ineffective, correctly surmising later that this was because his brother shared the same ability.

However, if one bloodbender could escape from the control of another, Hama (who was more proficient in the craft) should have properly resisted Katara during their encounter in the original series. Therefore, Tarrlok should have been able to control his brother and end the conflict prematurely.

3 Korra's Call Out Against Amon

angry korra from the legend of korra

After Amon's attacks had become a serious problem, Korra had issued a challenge to him for all to hear; she would meet him alone and resolve their dispute through a fateful duel. Just when the Avatar suspected he wasn't come and began to leave, he ambushed Korra and told her it wasn't the proper time to steal her bending before vanishing into the night.

Curiously, few would question the outcome of this battle after the fact or hold Korra to account for its result.

2 Korra's Desperate Airbending Mastery

amon fight

During the final battle against Amon, Korra's bending was taken from her. The Equalist had prepared to destroy the Avatar with his bloodbending, only for her to gain mastery over air in the brief seconds she had to live.

Ironically, this would go against everything known about airbending since Korra's attempts to rush her learning were detractive from the result (as Tenzin had previously explained to her). Therefore, even his power stealing touch miraculously did not take all four skills she was capable of, she should not have been able to airbend so conveniently or with such unrivaled expertise.

1 Amon's "Face"

Scarred amon

One of Amon's claims against benders was that one of them had scorched his face. It justified the mask he wore, even if Tarrlok would inform Korra that such an incident never occurred - it was a lie built to win the sympathy of his followers.

When the Avatar confronted him about this, he removed his mask to reveal a "charred" visage. As convincing as it seemed, it was only makeup, nonetheless demonstrating that the revolutionary had prepared for such an accusation to be levied against him. However, considering that Tarrlok was the only one who knew his face wasn't actually burned, it entailed that he suspected Korra would free him and tell her vital secrets that she would have lost without. It makes one wonder why he didn't relocate Tarrlok or station more guards around him to begin with.
