The Legend of Korra is the sequel to the beloved Avatar: The Last Airbender. The series brought viewers into a whole new world of Avatar which was fundamentally different from what fans were used to.
In a world now filled with technology, audiences followed the new Avatar on her journey to greatness. One of the noticeable differences between Korra's era and Aang's is the fighting styles unique to each series. The first season of The Legend of Korra was full of entertaining high-stakes fights that set the tone for the rest of the series.
10 Mako & Bolin Vs. The Lieutenant Showed Just How Deadly Non-Benders Can Be
After Bolin was captured, Mako and Korra infiltrated an Equalist rally to rescue him. With a clever distraction of steam serving as a smoke screen, Mako grabbed his brother and fled. They were followed quickly by the Lieutenant, who caught up with them and began fighting them. Mako and Bolin put up a good fight, but owing to their inexperience in fighting a skilled non-bending martial artist, they couldn't win. Korra arrived just in time, took out the Lieutenant with a surprise attack, and fled with her friends.
9 Equalists Vs. Lin Beifong, Korra, & Tenzin Proved That Tech Could Match Bending
As it turned out, Asami's father, Hiroshi Sato, was one of the Equalists that threatened to tear Republic City apart. Lin led her forces to Hiroshi's underground factory along with Tenzin and Korra, where they were confronted by Haroshi himself and his fellow Equalists. The villains had machines known as mecha tanks on their side and with this new tech, they were able to dominate these powerful benders. It was thanks to Mako, Bolin, and Asami that our heroes were able to get away safely.
8 Korra & Lin Beifong Vs. Equalists Was Not The Tournament Finale Fans Expected
After the championship finals had come to a close, the Pro-bending Arena was attacked by Amon and his Equalists. Korra, Bolin, and Mako were electrocuted and tied up while the White Falls Wolfbats were defeated by Amon and his men. After Korra was freed, she went after Amon along with Lin Beifong and engaged the escaping Equalists.
Their fight was entertaining and filled with anticipation. Korra was able to defeat the Lieutenant while Lin took out many Equalists by herself. In the end, though, Lin had to abandon her pursuit to save Korra when the latter fell from the roof of the arena.
7 Team Avatar Vs. Equalists Made Fans Happy With The Successors Of Aang's Gang
Tenzin fought alongside Republic City police officers against a group Equalists but were overwhelmed, leading to the capture of numerous officers, including the chief of police. Tenzin put up a good fight but he was knocked out as well. Team Avatar arrived just in time to fight the Equalists back. Each member of the team played an important role in the fight and when Tenzin was released, he lent his assistance and took out one of the Equalists' mecha tanks.
6 The Fire Ferrets Vs. The Buzzard Wasps Had Fans At The Edge Of Their Seats
During the championship semi-finals, the Fire Ferrets faced off against the Buzzard Wasps for a spot in the tournament finals. Because of the grudges between Mako, Bolin, and Korra, the Fire Ferrets were out of sync and found themselves fighting a losing battle. During the final round, Mako and Bolin were taken out of the fight. Korra, however, refused to give up and with a last effort, she delivered the knockout the Ferrets needed to win the match.
5 Avatar Aang Vs. Yakone Proved Aang Was Truly Powerful And Wise
A flashback that featured Amon's father, Yakone, and Avatar Aang showed how Yakone was convicted of using an illegal bending style to commit crimes. After being proclaimed guilty by Councilman Sokka, Yakone proceeded to bloodbend everyone in the room, knock out the Avatar, and escape.
Aang quickly woke and gave chase, destroying Yakone's vehicle once he caught up. Yakone emerged and began bloodbending Aang, who immediately released himself from Yakone's grip, trapped him with earthbending, and took his bending away.
4 Tarrlok Vs. Korra Had A Shocking And Heartbreaking End
After Tarrlok had taken Korra's friends prisoner, he was confronted by an upset Avatar Korra, who demanded that her friends be released. Tarrlok decided to try and strike a deal with Korra, but upon her rejection, both of them went head-to-head in an all-out battle. Tarrlok put up a good fight, but Korra was eventually able to get the upper hand. Just when she was about to finish him off, Tarrlok revealed his ability to bloodbend and took Korra captive.
3 General Iroh Vs. Equalists Airforce Proved Iroh Was Zuko's Grandson
In an attempt to stop the Equalists' aircraft from taking off, General Iroh, Bolin, and Asami infiltrated their base. They were captured and taken prisoner, but escaped with the help of Naga. Iroh immediately went after the planes and began shooting them down one by one. He proceeded to board one mid-flight and took out many others that attempted to stop him. His quick thinking during this fight, as well as his mastery over fire and lightning bending, made this one of the best fights of Book 1.
2 The Fire Ferrets Vs. The Wolfbats Was A Nail-Biting Experience For Viewers
During the Pro-bending Championship Tournament, the Fire Ferrets made enemies of the reigning champions, the White Falls Wolfbats. Both teams faced off against each other in the championship finals, where the Wolfbats pulled dirty tricks like bribery and cheating. Even with the odds stacked up against them, the Fire Ferrets put up a superior fight against the Wolfbats. Ultimately, the Wolfbats made one last cheap move to steal the win.
1 Amon Vs. Mako & Korra Was A Roller Coaster Of Emotions
After a failed attempt to reveal Amon's true identity to the public, Korra and Mako found themselves running for dear life. Amon caught up with them and held Korra and Mako with a powerful bloodbending grip. After taking Korra's bending, a distraction from the enraged Lieutenant allowed Mako the chance to release himself just enough from Amon's grip. Mako struck Amon with lightning and fled with Korra. Amon caught up yet again, but when he tried to take Mako's bending, Korra unlocked her airbending and managed to blow Amon out of the building.
