Nickelodeon's animated series The Legend of Korra stars the new avatar, the Water Tribe native Korra, as she faces terrifying villains over the course of four seasons, from Amon to Kuvira. But she is not alone; Tenzin and the Airbenders are ready to help, and that includes Tenzin's oldest daughter, Jinora.

At first, Jinora and her brother and sister are background characters, but, before long, Jinora becomes a vital ally of Korra's, and she gets entire plotlines to herself. By season four, she is indeed an impressive member of the Air Nomads, and we'd like to share the top ten facts that describe who Jinora really is as an air bender and as a friend.

10 First Airbender Girl For Generations

In season three, dozens of people, including Bumi, became Airbenders overnight, so it's easy to take Airbenders for granted after that. But don't forget about the horrific genocide of the Air Nation many years ago, and how close airbending came to vanishing forever.

Fortunately, Aang survived in the iceberg, and his son, Tenzin, carried on the Airbending tradition. In turn, Tenzin and his wife Pema had an Airbender as their firstborn: Jinora. She has the distinction of being the first Airbender girl born for over 170 years! Her birth was practically a historic moment.

9 She's Impressionable

When the crew picked up Kai the Airbender rookie at an Earth Kingdom town, Jinora took a great interest in him at once. He fascinated her, and Jinora wanted to learn more about what made him who he was. She also got a few ideas from him.

Kai is used to a very different lifestyle than Jinora, providing an outsider's view of the Airbender family. Jinora listened pretty closely, and she used Kai's ideas to ask her father for her official Airbender tattoos at a young age. Being the sharp parent he is, Tenzin at once realized that Kai was having quite an influence on his firstborn. Moms and dads don't miss a thing.

8 She Has An Impatient Streak

For the most part, Jinora is indeed patient and likes to plan ahead, but, as we mentioned earlier, Kai had a serious influence on her. We can tell that she had been meaning to ask for her Airbender tattoos for some time, given how receptive she was to Kai's words.

In fact, when Tenzin said no, Jinora actually threw a bit of a tantrum and had a "you're always holding me back" line. She even reminds us a bit of a young Anakin Skywalker... minus the dark side—thank goodness.

7 She Loves Spirits

Jinora

In The Legend of Korra, as with its predecessor, humanity has a mixed relationship with spirits. Some people, such as Admiral Zhao, scorn the spirits and only want to destroy them or exploit them. Others, like Aang, Zaheer, and Jinora, have a better relationship with them.

Jinora made good friends with a flying rabbit spirit, and she has an easy time going in and out of the spirit world (and serving as Korra's guide in that mystical place). She also had a conversation with Wan Shi Tong and wasn't the least bit intimidated by this imposing owl spirit.

6 She Alone Makes Projections

Jinora is unique in a few interesting ways, such as becoming the first female Airbender master of her generation. But she has another astounding skill up her sleeve: spirit projections. In real life, some people believe in astral projections, while others don't, but, in Jinora's case, there's no doubt.

This ability has saved team avatar more than once. Jinora can act as a messenger who passes through stone and walls with ease, and she can scout for her party without risking harm to her real body. She scouted out the entire Lake Laogai facility this way, too, and helped the Airbender prisoners escape—and she can talk to people while in this form, too. To our knowledge, no one else, past or present, has ever done anything quite like this the way Jinora does.

5 Saving The Avatar Spirit

The avatar state dates back 10,000 years to avatar Wan, and it is a vital bridge between the world of spirits and that of humanity. Only the avatar can keep the world safe, and twice, the avatar state would have met an early end without Jinora's help.

In season two, Jinora helped Korra locate the spirit of Raava during harmonic convergence, without whom the avatar state is impossible. Later, in season three, it was Jinora's idea to create a huge tornado and separate Zaheer from Korra. This prevented Zaheer from killing Korra while the latter was in the avatar state.

4 She Takes After Her Father

Overall, we think that Jinora takes after Tenzin quite a bit, even if they butt heads a few times. Jinora, like her old man, is serious and meditative, and she takes Airbender lore and philosophy very seriously. She does her part to uphold what little remains of the Air Nation.

And, like her father, she is an elegant and perceptive bender, and she has a bit of a stubborn and hard-headed streak, too. Tenzin is calm and cool... but he blows his top once in a while to keep things interesting. We saw plenty of that in Jinora during seasons three and four, too.

3 She's A Romantic

Despite being an Airbender, Jinora has a handful of earthly attachments, and we're okay with that. She loves her family, but she also likes to see her friends get their happily-ever-after, too. When Mako came along and visited Air Temple Island, both Jinora and Ikki teased Korra about the stunning Firebender boy who came their way.

And that's not all. Korra asked the Airbender girls for ideas on getting Mako to date her, and both of them eagerly offered some fun ideas. Jinora shared a romantic fairy tale she read in a book, but, unfortunately, it was a bit too exotic for Korra's tastes.

2 She's A Helper

True, Jinora sometimes has her bratty or selfish moments, but she's a kid, and she's growing up fast. For the most part, she has a heart of gold, and she, Kai, and Opal are some of the kindest people in Korra's group.

How do we mean? Between seasons three and four, the Earth Kingdom fell into total disarray owing to Zaheer's machinations, and many towns and villages were desperate for help. So, Jinora, Kai, and Opal gladly took part in humanitarian relief efforts all over the place.

1 She's Bookish

Many anime series feature a book-lover girl, especially slice of life anime series, and Jinora takes up that slot in The Legend of Korra. She has read a lot and is pretty knowledgeable, and she enjoyed her visit to Wan Shi Tong's library. She also corrected him about how radios work.

The character was named after a real-life Buddhist monk who was a writer and a poet, so that name was a slam-dunk for this bookish character. Knowledge is power, and, if the world didn't need saving so often, Jinora might consider a career as a librarian.
