WARNING: The following contains major spoilers for Legacies Season 3, Episode 4, "Hold On Tight," which aired Thursday on The CW.

On the previous episode of Legacies, Landon and Hope made up after Hope saved Landon’s musical by stepping in to sing the final song. And the beginning of the latest episode shows that, even though Landon is now human, for the time being at least, he and Hope are in a good place. Landon brings Hope breakfast in bed to celebrate their one-year "anniversary" -- a complex calculation he’s managed to make after tallying up all their time as a couple. In response, Hope tells him she wants their day to be particularly special, implying she wants to have sex. Before they can get to that, though, the pair have to stop the Necromancer’s evil plan from coming to fruition.

Landon leads Hope into Mystic Falls High School where the Necromancer is raising Malivore, and soon finds himself making a deal to be Malivore’s vessel as a means to prevent his father from being controlled by the Necromancer. Yet, when a zombie dragon raised by the Necromancer attacks Landon and he turns to ash right in front of Hope, all seems lost. After all, no matter who’s controlling Landon's body, it’s still mortal.

As a grief-stricken Hope threatens the Necromancer, Landon comes back to life unscathed, to both her and Landon’s surprise. They quickly deduce they’ve been sent to a prison world, along with all of Malivore’s monsters, and it saved Landon’s life.

Of course, the problem is now they’re stuck in a prison world they can’t leave unless someone in the real world pulls them out. Hope has an epiphany, however, realizing they might be able to get out if they go into the Malivore pit. Since, as a tribrid, Hope is toxic to Malivore, he should spit her back out into the real world, and as long as Landon holds onto her, they can both leave the prison world that way.

It’s not clear if Hope’s plan works as, when they make it out of the pit, Landon remembers Hope and Malivore’s pit is empty. While all of this is strange, it’s still their anniversary, so Landon proposes that before they see if they’ve made it back to the real world they celebrate with a dance. Hope agrees, and that dance soon turns into something more intimate.

Afterwards, Hope is incredibly happy. She confesses she didn’t think she could ever be as happy as she is with Landon. But as she talks, Landon starts to cough up mud and then dissolves into the stuff, essentially seeming to create a new Malivore pit.

It’s unclear what’s happened to Landon, but no doubt Hope's on the case. The first question is what the cause could be. Did this happen to Landon because he was a vessel for Malivore, or even worse, could it somehow be a product of Landon and Hope sleeping together? After all, Malivore is allergic to Hope and if Landon absorbed any of his father's traits while he was Malivore's vessel, Hope may now have a negative effect on him too. One way or another, Hope has never let Landon go without a fight and this time certainly won't be any different.
