Ahead of next month's Season 2 premiere, Legacies has released its first look at new cast member Thomas Doherty as the ancient vampire Sebastian in an official still.

Released through TVLine, the new character is wearing an outfit befitting being turned as a vampire centuries before the start of The Vampire Diaries spinoff series. Showrunner Julie Plec had previously hinted the second season would be adding a major character who had been turned as a young man around "the 15th century," rising in the 21st century to a very different world.

"The character is in response to how difficult it is to write a contemporary vampire in this newly woke world," explained Plec in an interview with TVLine. "Vampire lore is rooted in denying women agency, predatory culture and all these other terrible things [that we know are wrong]. He’s our response to that."

Doherty is joined by new cast members Alex Denisof (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) and Bianca Kajlich (Halloween: Resurrection), with Doherty portraying an eccentric professor while Kajlich portrays the new sheriff of Mystic Falls.
