Nintendo released a new Pokémon Scarlet and Violet trailer.

The new trailer showed off several new Pokémon for trainers to catch and raise, including Lechonk, a new pig-like creature, and Scarlet and Violet's two cover monsters, who were unnamed but both appear to be Dragon-types. Scarlet's star Pokémon is, appropriately, a scarlet-colored dragon with feathers, while Violet gets a more high-tech looking dragon that appears to have jet engines for legs. The new preview also introduced the ninth generation's two new professors, Prof. Sada and Prof. Turo, as well as a female trainer, Nemona, that appears to be the player's new rival.

The new footage also showcased one of the game's new mechanics, which appears to be co-op play — the trailer shows several player created characters interacting with each other, and are shown trading Pokémon on the game's overworld. The customized characters also confirm that players will once again be able to change their clothes and haircut in the new generation. The trailer also shows a Pokémart located outside of a city, so it looks like players will be able to stock up on items without having to run back to town.

Scarlet and Violet were originally unveiled earlier this year with a new trailer that introduced its new region, which is inspired by Spain, and the games' three new starter Pokémon: the grass cat Spigatito, the fiery crocodile Fuecoco, and finally, the pompadoured duck, Quaxly.

The first footage of the game also revealed that the title will continue the semi-open world structure seen in the series' latest spinoff title, Pokémon Legends Arceus, which was released for the Nintendo Switch last January. Like 2019's Sword and Shield before it, Legends Arceus received some criticism for its lackluster presentation, but the overall reception was positive, with critics and fans alike praising the game for changes it brought to the series' traditional formula, including new battle mechanics and changes to the way players catch and train new monsters. The shakeup to the franchise apparently paid off, as Nintendo previously announced that the game managed to sell over 12 million copies as of March 31.

The trailer confirms that unlike the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild sequel, which was delayed into 2023, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet will still manage to be out before the end of the year: both games will be released exclusively for the Nintendo Switch on Nov. 18, 2022.
