A total of 162 champions make up League of Legends' roster as of the release of K'Sante. There are ever-positive characters like Lux and Nilah, while others like Vex and Morgana prefer to look on the darker side of things. There are also creepy champions who are designed to invoke feelings of fear and dread.

This can be done through their voice lines, visual design, or their backstory. League is even known for updating older champions who didn't quite fulfill their intended fantasy at the start. These include Fiddlesticks and Warwick, who are now known as two of the most unsettling champions. They aren't the only ones, though; League is home to all manner of champions who make players' skin crawl.

10 Fiddlesticks Is The Physical Manifestation Of Human Fear

Fiddlesticks has been part of League's roster since the very beginning. His outdated, clunky design didn't properly capture his fantasy as a walking nightmare. Fiddlesticks was completely overhauled in April 2020 and now instills terror into all who encounter him on Summoner's Rift.

Fiddlesticks was originally a creature of legend, birthed from the fear humans had of him. He has no form of his own, instead taking on the form that humans are most afraid of. The sound design for both Fiddlesticks' abilities and voice lines only further adds to his unsettling nature.

9 Pyke Kills Anyone Who Sets Sail On Bilgewater's Shores

Known as the Bloodharber Ripper, Pyke lays waste to anyone unfortunate enough to attempt to sail through Bilgewater. Pyke was a skilled harpooner, but the captain cuts his lifeline during a particularly dangerous job, and the crew watches as Pyke is eaten alive.

This isn't the end for Pyke; he lurks under the sea, waiting for an opportunity to strike. Not only is his lore terrifying, but his visual and audio cues in-game give players a sense of unknowing dread when they face him.

8 Evelynn Lures In Unsuspecting Victims Before Torturing Them

Evelynn only feels alive when she's inflicting pain on others. She initially has trouble luring in prey, so she instead decides to study them. This enables her to learn about their desires first-hand, and Evelynn is able to craft a perfected form within a matter of weeks.

Using the form of an attractive human woman, Evelynn lures in unsuspecting prey. By saying what they want to hear, Evelynn allows her victims to experience a moment of pleasure before feeding on their agony and tossing them aside. In-game, Evelynn lurks in the shadows, popping out to eliminate anyone unfortunate enough to be caught alone.

7 Warwick Is Driven Forward By Insatiable Bloodlust

Originally a human, who some fans suspect to be Vander from Arcane, Warwick was transformed into a beast through painful experimentation. His body fused with all kinds of machinery, Warwick is driven forward by bloodlust.

While Warwick is meant to target criminals, he'll hunt down any source of fresh blood, eliminating whoever the source is. When playing as Warwick, he can chase down low-health enemies at breakneck speeds before closing the distance with his Ultimate and shredding through his target. Anyone being hunted down hears special, haunting audio cues to let them know their time is soon up.

6 Jhin Sees Murder As A Beautiful Performance

Jhin sees murder as art and revels in putting on performances that terrify his victims and sorry onlookers. Originally an Ionian prisoner, Jhin was freed in order to work as an assassin for Ionia's ruling council. This gives Jhin the funds and freedom to do as he pleases, putting on larger and more gruesome performances with time.

On Summoner's Rift, Jhin is equipped with all manner of tools that enable him to trap his victims and make them go along with his performances. What makes Jhin truly terrifying is the fact that he doesn't see what he's doing as wrong; instead, he equates murdering others to making them beautiful.

5 Shaco Only Finds Pleasure In Tormenting Unsuspecting Playthings

Created to be a prince's plaything, Shaco was corrupted by dark magic. He now lives solely to murder and cause mayhem and delights in tormenting others. In Shaco's mind, he's playing twisted games with those he tortures, laughing all the while.

In Shaco's lore, he uses simple toys and boxes to disorient his victims before going in for the kill. In-game, Shaco's abilities work similarly, laying down invisible boxes that fear and damage enemies. Anyone who steps on these boxes will hear Shaco's laughter before he appears out of the shadows to finish them off.

4 Nocturne Was Born From Human Nightmares

Born from human nightmares, Nocturne is a being of pure terror. Originally trapped in the Spirit Realm, Nocturne freed itself and now preys upon unsuspecting, fearful victims in the human world.

No one is safe from Nocturne, who preys on the dreams of the powerful and the weak alike. Nocturne in-game shrouds the entire map in darkness before closing in on an unsuspecting target, complete with chilling audio cues that let enemies know their time is almost up.

3 Vel'Koz Eliminates Any Mortal Standing In His Way

Vel'Koz's name roughly translates to "understand by unmaking," and this is the attitude he approaches the human race with. Vel'Koz analyzes humans and gains the knowledge they possess by dismantling them. He feels no remorse for doing so and will cut down any mortal standing in his path.

Vel'Koz coldly conducts experimentation without feeling anything for his victims, and this is reaffirmed in many of his in-game voice lines. Not only is Vel'Koz's approach to the human race unsettling in itself, but his appearance only adds to this feeling.

2 Urgot Will Get Rid Of Anyone Who Isn't Deemed Strong Enough To Survive

Originally a loyal headsman for Noxus, Urgot was betrayed by the nation he'd dedicated his life to. While locked away in prison, Urgot decides that man is not meant to rule, but to survive. He applies this cruel ideology to everyone he meets, testing them in battle — where they either die or prove themselves strong enough to survive.

Urgot's in-game abilities make him even more terrifying, especially his Ultimate. Urgot latches his chains onto an enemy of his choosing, and if they drop low enough, he can re-cast this ability to pull in and immediately kill his victim.

1 Rengar Makes Easy Prey Of Anyone Caught Alone

Rengar's splash art in League of Legends.

Rengar's lore is more tragic than creepy. Thrown to the wolves by his father, Rengar had no choice but to hunt to survive. Over the years, he hones his skills until the day he takes his father's life. However, instead of staying to reign as chieftan or taking a trophy to commemorate his kill, Rengar leaves in search of his next kill.

Rengar's persona in-game makes him truly spine-chilling. Rengar hides in brushes around the map, waiting for the opportunity to leap out at an unsuspecting victim. He's able to be stealthy and run at incredibly high speeds, chasing down his prey from the shadows. Whoever he's targeting is marked with an icon above their heads, signaling that their time is soon up.
