Often regarded as the world's largest Esport, League of Legends has come a long way since its start in 2009. Designed as a multiplayer online battle arena, LoL has branched out in its narrative, characters, and storytelling even more so than the actual game mechanics themselves. Entire stories form around different skin lines for characters - not only giving players a new look for their favorites champions, but a new universe for that character to explore.
Developed by Riot Games, League has become one of the most successful MOBA's of all time, resulting in various spin-offs including various spin-off games, a mobile game, a card game, and a developing animated series. Notably, a comic series centered around the champion Lux was released in 2019, with its success likely signifying more comics to come in the future. With a roster of nearly 155 characters, it could be hard to choose who'd get the comic spotlight next.
10 Senna - The Redeemer Needs To Be Involved In Narratives Surrounding Black Mist
Though she was originally released in November 2019, Senna's character has been a part of League lore since 2013, when her husband, Lucian, was first introduced. Originally a prisoner in the wraith Tresh's lantern, Senna was freed from her imprisonment when Lucian stabbed part of his broken gun into the lantern itself. Senna has gathered knowledge from countless other souls within and uses her newfound powers and abilities to fight against the supernatural Black Mist and The Ruined King.
Given League's current overarching story of The Black Mist spreading throughout all of Runeterra, it's likely that Senna will be heavily involved in the plot and narrative. Still, given her popularity and the fact that much of what fans know originally came from Lucian and Thresh's stories, it would be nice to see her in the spotlight more.
9 Sett - The Boss's Story Is Truly Compelling And Needs To Continue
A half Vastaya (League's original chimeric race) and half-human, Sett is pit fighter turned crime boss. Despite having no formal training or martial arts expertise, Sett's brute strength and raw power allowed him to quickly ascended through the underground fighting rings he participated in - having gone to them in search of his father. At the top of his game, Sett's one motivation is to keep his mother well taken care of and happy, even if he has to lie about his occupation.
Arguably, Sett is probably already more fleshed out than many of League's other champions, but his story is compelling enough for fans to want it to continue. A solo comic series could more greatly explore his origin story, follow him on some of his adventures to find his father, or even detail his fighting life.
8 Zyra - A Solo Comic Could Show Just How Much Of A Threat Rise Of The Thorns Poses
Nature's wrath given sentient form, Zyra is a beautiful and terrifying hybrid of plant and human born from powerful magic seeping into the Gardens of Zyr. The plantlife in Zyr was once all Zyra was, which had almost been destroyed by the very magic that gave Zyra life. When she emerged as herself, she quickly came to realize that those around her - whether they were mortal or ethereal - held no respect for the land they lived on.
Essentially League's version of Poison Ivy, Zyra seeks to spread her roots and plants out as far as they can go - destroying all who would oppose or harm the natural way of life. Her influence and reach across Runeterra have yet to be clearly defined, and having her star in her own series would be the perfect opportunity to establish it and the threat that she poses.
7 Fiddlesticks - The Ancient Fear Has Got To Have A Gripping Backstory
One of League's oldest and original champions, Fiddlesticks is the walking embodiment of fear. Recently reworked in 2020 to better reflect his origins and lore, it's quite chilling to hear his voice, let alone look at him. In League lore, Fiddlesticks has been the talk of camp-fire ghost stories for centuries... but is a lot more than just a scary legend.
Part of the horror of his character is the unknown aspect of it - as many don't know his origins or his goals other than the need to reap the fear he sows in those unfortunate enough to encounter him. Any comic centered around him would be bone-chilling, exciting, and loads of fun.
6 Jinx - A Solo Comic Could Clear Up Some Of The Mystery Surrounding The Loose Cannon
Anarchy incarnate, Jinx's one goal in life is to shoot as many things as she can as quickly as she can. Lover of bullets, bombs, and explosions, Jinx causes chaos wherever she goes... and largely just because she wants to. Her aesthetic and mannerisms - such as talking to her guns and giving them personalities - are reminiscent of Harley Quinn and Dragon Ball Z's Launch, no doubt helping with her popularity.
Jinx herself still has a rather large amount of unknowns attributed to her - such as her long-term goals and her family situation (as she often claims her sister is even crazier than she). Though she's starred in her own music video, having her own solo comic could more greatly establish her character by letting readers and fans get into her head.
5 Ekko - It Would Be Fascinating To See The Boy Who Shattered Time In Action
Debatably, Ekko is one of the most powerful characters in League's rooster. Born with a genius-level intellect, he could do even the most complex tasks before he could even walk properly. Of course, his greatest invention came in the form of what he dubbed his "Z-Drive," a time-traveling device that he uses to plan out his every move and action.
His accomplishments have, of course, put him in the crosshairs of some of Runeterra's most dangerous people, who'd likely want to use his technology for more nefarious deeds. It'd be interesting to see Ekko fully in action, traveling through time and exploring the different realities of his choices.
4 Diana - The Scorn Of The Moon Has A Fascinating History
Out of all League's champions, Diana (along with Leona) is perhaps one of the most reworked characters in the game's history - lorewise. A member of the Solari - an ancient religious organization that worships the sun - Diana was outcast for exploring different paths of religion, namely the worship of the moon. In her original lore, she'd attempted her whole life to gain the approval of her elders, and when they called for her execution for her studies about the moon, her sorrow quickly bloomed into hatred, and she slaughtered them all.
With her new canonical lore, Diana's relationship with Leona is more fleshed out, and her hatred of the Solari is toned back quite a bit, even believing that the Solari and the Lunari (the moon worshipping religion she now believes and represents) don't need to fight one another. It'd be nice to get a deeper glimpse at this calmer version of her character... along with some updates to her voice-lines, as most of them are still pretty spiteful sounding.
3 Aphelios (& Alune) - A Solo Comic Focusing On The Weapon Of The Faithful Could Help Define Them As Individuals
Twins born to the Lunari faith, Aphelios & his sister Alune work together as one champion (though only Aphelios is physically playable). Alune guides Aphelios' hands from the spirit world, having fled there to escape Solari persecution. Using her immense magical power, Alune gifts Aphelios the various weapons he utilizes in League's gameplay.
Both twins are still rather shrouded in mystery, as is the mystical connection allowing them to interact across different planes of existence. Fleshing both of them out would not only make them more interesting as a whole but help to further define their characters.
2 Ahri - A Solo Comic Could Clear Up Some Of The Changes The Nine-Tailed Fox Has Gone Through
Alongside Lux, Ahri is pretty much League's poster girl. First released in December 2011, Ahri quickly became a fan favorite and stable mid-laner in regular and competitive gameplay. Her popularity further increased with her inclusion in various skin lines - namely the Star Guardians (an allusion to magical girl/boy anime) & K.D.A. (League's virtual K-pop band) - and her starring roles in the League cinematics: "A New Dawn" and "A New Horizon."
Like most characters', Ahri's story and lore have undergone various changes since her debut. Originally depicted with abilities similar to a Kumiho - needing to drain souls to sustain her human form, Ahri has since been depicted as a Vastaya. Besides helping to clear up and fully define Ahri's personality, goals, and ambitions, a solo comic dedicated to Ahri's story would be a top-seller.
1 Vladimir - Would The Crimson Reaper Be Interested In His Nephew's Goals?
An ancient and powerful hemomancer, Vladimir is a magically altered human with a fondness and taste for blood. Leading a secret society called the Crimson Circle, he has a high amount of influence in the Noxian government, even using his blood magic abilities to help resurrect Noxus' greatest soldier, Sion.
Though Vladimir himself is not actively involved in some of League's more extensive stories, his family is. Notably, his distant nephew, Viego, is set to be the main antagonist of the spin-off game Ruined King: A League of Legends Story and is behind the recent "Ruination" event in League's timeline. It'd be interesting to see if Vladimir is at all interested in his nephew's goals... or if he would even work against Viego.
