A new film based on Alan Moore and Kevin O'Neill's The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen is in the works.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Twentieth Century Studios, which is a division of Disney, is working on a reboot film for Hulu. Justin Haythe, who is known for his work on such films as 2008's Revolutionary Road and 2018's Red Sparrow, will pen the screenplay. The project will be produced by Don Murphy, Susan Montford and Erwin Stoff. Murphy also produced the 2003 League of Extraordinary Gentlemen film.

The comic, which originally takes place in Victorian England, gathers together a number of key fictional characters, such as Mina Murray/Mina Harker, Allan Quatermain and Captain Nemo, to help the British Empire. They're gathered together by British Intelligence agent Campion Bond. The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen won a number of high-profile awards during its run, including the Bram Stoker Award for Best Illustrated Narrative, the National Comics Award for Best New Comic (International) and the Eisner Award for Best Finite Series/Limited Series.

In 2003, 20th Century Fox released The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, which was loosely based on Moore and O'Neill's comic of the same name. Directed by Stephen Norrington from a script by James Dale Robinson, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen saw the titular team forming to stop a terrorist group from starting a major war. The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen was a modest commercial success, though critically panned. At the box office, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen earned around $179 million against a budget of $78 million, though the film sold well on DVD. Critically, the movie holds a 17 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.

The Hollywood Reporter does not make note of how, or if, O'Neill and Moore, who has a notoriously prickly relationship with adaptations of his work, are involved in the reboot. However, the outlet does indicate Haythe is looking to make something more comics accurate.

Partially as a result of his experience working on the film, Quatermain actor Sean Connery retired from acting following the release of The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. The movie was the final live-action film appearance for Connery, who passed away in 2020.

No release date or casting information was provided for The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen on Hulu.
