UPDATE: Naughty Dog has commented on the The Last of Us: Part II leak, saying, "We know the last few days have been incredibly difficult for you. We feel the same. It's disappointing to see the release and sharing of pre-release footage from the development. Do your best to avoid spoilers and we ask that you don't spoil it for others." You can see our coverage as it originally appeared below.

Following a delay due to the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, key cutscenes, gameplay and major plot points from The Last of Us: Part II have leaked online.

The leak originated on YouTube, where video from February and March builds of the game appeared online. At this time, rumors suggest the poster was a disgruntled Naughty Dog employee or tester, though that remains unverified at this time. While Sony is attempting to remove the leaked footage, it has been reappearing online and is available through social media and other means.

The authenticity of the leak has not yet been confirmed by developer Naughty Dog, who prior to the game's delay had reportedly been engaging in the controversial practice of "crunch" for months. Naughty Dog faced much criticism about its practices as a result of those accusations.

According to The Last of Us II's official synopsis,

Five years after their dangerous journey across the post-pandemic United States, Ellie and Joel have settled down in Jackson, Wyoming. Living amongst a thriving community of survivors has allowed them peace and stability, despite the constant threat of the infected and other, more desperate survivors. When a violent event disrupts that peace, Ellie embarks on a relentless journey to carry out justice and find closure. As she hunts those responsible one by one, she is confronted with the devastating physical and emotional repercussions of her actions.

The Last of Us II will release on PlayStation 4 on June 19.
