This summer, The Last of Us Part II will bring players back to the post-apocalyptic world of the acclaimed 2013 game.

Returning director Neil Druckmann and the game's developers provided a sneak peek at the game's story in a new behind-the-scenes featurette. For the creative team, it was important to deliver a relatively standalone title, while building on the legacy and narrative established by the original game.

Taking place years after the original, the game's protagonist Ellie is now 19 years old. She and her surrogate father Joel have found peace in a new community. However, when a cataclysmic incident occurs, Ellie finds herself back fighting for survival as the game explores the consequences of violence.

In the original game, a mutant fungus infected humans and transformed them into mindlessly savage figures, which led civilization to collapse. 20 years after the initial outbreak, Joel found a teenage girl named Ellie, and the two navigated the countryside to find a safe community away from roving bands of scavengers and the ravenous infected.

Developed by Naughty Dog, The Last of Us Part II will be released for PlayStation 4 on June 19.
