Sony fans around the world have been looking forward to the release of The Last of Us Part II since it was first revealed at the PlayStation Experience showcase in 2016. It will be Naughty Dog's first game since Uncharted 4: A Thief's End, which released that same year. More importantly, it's a follow-up to one of the most lauded games in history. The survival-horror sequel is set five years after the original. It will put players in the role of Ellie this time around as she goes on a violent mission of vengeance, navigating a world filled with murderous humans and terrifying, fungal-infected monsters.

The Last of Us: Part II has had a troubled 2020 with a delay due to COVID-19 and story leaks, but after all of this, it seems it is, finally, almost here. Here's everything you need to know about its release, including when it's coming out, the different versions available and what you get from pre-ordering it.

The Last Of Us Part II Release Date

The Last of Us Part II was originally meant to launch on February 21 of this year. However, not long after the release date trailer was dropped, Naughty Dog pushed the game back to May 29 in order to polish it to fit their high standards. But with the COVID-19 pandemic affecting physical sales of games, Sony delayed it indefinitely. Soon after story elements leaked online, a new release date of June 19 was announced.

The game is currently on track to make that launch date. However, it did cause fellow Sony exclusive Ghost of Tsushima to move its June release back a month.

The Last Of Us Part II Special Editions

There are many versions of The Last of Us Part II outside of the Standard Edition. Each upgrade comes with a PS4 theme, six PSN avatars, a digital soundtrack and a digital art book from Dark Horse for $59.99. The Digital Deluxe Edition can be downloaded from the PlayStation Store for $69.99. But for $10 more, players can purchase the Special Edition. This will come with a steelbook case and a 48-page physical version of the art book.

The standard for many AAA titles is to release a Collector's Edition with extra physical bonuses, and The Last of Us Part II is no different. For $169.99, players will get everything included in the Special Edition as well as a detailed 12-inch statue of Ellie playing her guitar, a replica of Ellie's bracelet, a lithograph art print with a thank you letter from Naughty Dog, five stickers and six enamel pins.

Sony and Naughty Dog are going one step further with the Ellie Edition for $229.99. This will come with everything in the Collector's Edition, plus an embroidered patch of the game's logo, a 7-inch vinyl record and a replica of Ellie's backpack. This version quickly sold out after its announcement and has gone in an out of stock at various retailers, so players who still want it may need to do a bit of searching to find it.

The Last Of Us Part II Pre-Order Bonuses

There are a couple of in-game benefits that come with pre-ordering The Last of Us Part II. No matter which version players choose to pre-order, it will come with an ammo capacity upgrade for Ellie's pistol and a crafting training manual, which will give Ellie new crafting recipes and upgrades. Pre-ordering the Digital Deluxe Edition or Standard Edition on the PlayStation Store will also include an Avatar featuring Ellie's tattoo.
