The parties who allegedly leaked a number of major spoilers for Naughty Dog's The Last of Us Part II has been caught and reportedly have no affiliation to Sony or the developer, as originally believed.

According to GamesIndustry.biz, Sony confirmed the "primary individuals responsible for the leaks" have been identified. Apart from the fact that they aren't involved with itself or Naughty Dog, Sony refused to comment further. There's also no news on whether charges will be brought against those who leaked the plot points.

With the upcoming sequel to 2013's hit survival horror being delayed in the midst of COVID-19, a series of supposedly huge spoilers made their way online via YouTube and soon spread to forums including Resertera. Although the leaks were from an early build of the game, they seemed to be legitimate and were spread far and wide before they were pulled.

Following the spoilers being posted, Naughty Dog released a statement and thanked fans for their support. A spokesperson also asked gamers to avoid reading the spoilers so as not to ruin The Last of Us Part II.

There's still plenty of hype surrounding The Last of Us Part II, and as the game heads toward a new release date, there isn't much longer to stay off forums and avoid the spoilers.

The Last of Us Part II arrives on PlayStation 4 June 19.
