Weiss from their own Star Wars projects had many wondering what the status of Johnson's trilogy. “We’re still engaged with Lucasfilm, and we’ll wait and see,” Johnson told Deadline. “No updates on it at this moment, but yeah.”RELATED: REPORT: Star Wars Directors Granted Limited Creative Control by LucasfilmAfter Johnson helmed The Last Jedi in 2017, Disney offered him the reins on a new Star Wars trilogy. Allegedly, this trilogy would have begun filming after Johnson's current feature film, Knives Out wrapped up.Johnson's last update about the trilogy was on February 23, in answer to a rumor about Lucasfilm canceling the project. He posted the conversation on his Twitter.

In May, Johnson sat down with Kathleen Kennedy to discuss future Star Wars projects, and Daniel Weiss and David Benioff (Game of Thrones) were also part of that meeting.

Disney announced that after December's Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker finished production, the company would take a break from releasing any more Star Wars movies. This news also came off the heels of Solo's disappointing box office performance, so it's unclear when Johnson's trilogy will happen.
