Elden Ring may feature an overwhelmingly large overworld rich in content, but the number of bosses on the critical path is smaller than expected. Rennala, Queen of the Full Moon, is one of the adversaries players are bound to encounter on their journey through The Lands Between. Though her defeat is imminent, she will afterwards cater to the players' wishes with the help of the Great Rune of the Unborn and Larval Tears.

Larval Tears are one of Elden Ring's key items. As a unique resource that grants the players the opportunity to respec their character from the ground up, these consumables are given to Rennala in exchange for her services. The game poses no limits on the rebirth feature, and players can experiment with different character builds so long as they have enough Larval Tears at their disposal. Since every rebirth requires one Larval Tear, there is a good chance the players will need several in store in order to respec to their hearts' content.

Because of Larval Tears' distinct application, they are exceedingly rare. Players might find some by sheer luck while exploring The Lands Between and pillaging remains, but they will have to hone their combat skills if they wish to obtain all 18. Although several merchants have a Larval Tear available for purchase, most are acquired by defeating select shapeshifting overworld enemies disguised as lesser opponents.

One of the many reasons why players should consider investing time in hunting down Larval Tears is because they carry over into New Game+. While choosing a class that accommodates the preferred playstyle will provide the players with the necessary toolkit to prevail in Elden Ring's harsh environments, various armaments and powerful Incantations may prove beneficial under certain circumstances, especially during boss encounters. If the players cannot equip them due to their current build, paying a visit to Rennala and respecing their character will ensure that the stat barrier is swiftly removed without sacrificing any in-game progress.

Where To Find Larval Tears In Limgrave And Caelid

Screenshot of a Runebear in Limgrave, as seen in Elden Ring.

To locate the first Larval Tear, players do not have to venture far from the starting point in Limgrave. East of the Agheel Lake South Site of Grace is a layered cliff, where they will find an undead opponent overseeing the path below. Engaging it in combat will reveal that it is, in fact, a Runebear in disguise. Upon defeat, the Runebear will drop a Larval Tear.

The second Larval Tear can be discovered in a similar vein. After heading south of the Caelid Highway South Site of Grace, players will come across a resting place with several sarcophagi. Disposing of the undead soldiers in the area will reveal that one of them is actually a Troll, whose defeat will yield a Larval Tear.

Where To Find Larval Tears In Liurnia Of The Lakes

The southern reaches of Liurnia are home to another two Larval Tears. Players can locate the third Larval Tear on a corpse situated between two sarcophagi near the Village of the Albinaurics Site of Grace, which can be found in southwest Liurnia. Voyaging north of the village will eventually lead the players to the Boilprawn Shack Site of Grace. A giant lobster patrolling the area northwest of the Site is another shapeshifting opponent (Grafted Scion) bearing the fourth Larval Tear.

Northwest Liurnia hides several mysteries in Caria Manor, including two Larval Tears in its immediate vicinity. After defeating Royal Knight Loretta, players should use the Royal Moongazing Grounds Site of Grace as their point of reference. East of the Moongazing Grounds is the Behind Caria Manor Site of Grace and a graveyard haunted by a phantom resting in a chair. Approaching the apparition will reward the players with the fifth Larval Tear.

Players will find Ranni's and Seluvis' Rise west of the Moongazing Grounds. Heading toward Seluvis' Rise will reveal a scarab along the cliff, marking a good starting point for a downward climb. After descending a few rooftops, scaffoldings and a ladder, a merchant named Pidia, Carian Servant, will greet the players and offer to sell some wares alongside the sixth Larval Tear for 3,000 Runes.

North of the Rampartside Path Site of Grace in Altus Plateau lie ruins of an abandoned building. An undead enemy in a corner next to the entrance will transform into a Lion Guardian before parting with the seventh Larval Tear. To find the next shapeshifting Larval bearer, players should head northwest of Mt. Gelmir's Volcano Manor. The downhill path from the Road of Iniquity Site of Grace will lead them to a charred corpse that transforms into a Colossal Wormface and drops the eighth Larval Tear upon defeat.

Mountaintops of the Giants feature a secret area on the lower plains accessible only if the players have both parts of the Haligtree Secret Medallion in their possession. Southeast of its Inner Consecrated Snowfield Site of Grace is a band of undead soldiers. After disposing of them, one will reveal its true Runebear form and reward the players with the ninth Larval Tear as it draws its last breath.

Where To Find Larval Tears In Siofra River, Nokron And Nokstella Eternal Cities

The easiest way to obtain the remaining nine Larval Tears is to follow Ranni The Witch's questline. Using the lift at Siofra River Well in east Limgrave's Mistwood will lead the players directly to Siofra River, where an Abandoned Merchant can be discovered northwest of the Siofra River Bank Site of Grace or east of Limgrave's point of entry. He has taken shelter inside a building accessible via wooden scaffolding near a waterfall. He will sell the 10th Larval Tear to players for 3,000 Runes.

Nokron will give the players a quick break from trekking, as its four Larval Tears lie in close proximity to one another. Entering the building that lies east of the central square after spawning at the Nokron, Eternal City Site of Grace will lead the players to the 11th Larval Tear. Once claimed, players should take a right turn and go down the stairs until they reach an open area with a gazebo. Inspecting the corpse will yield the 12th Larval Tear, after which gamers should turn their attention to the entrance shrouded in a yellow mist.

Although the Mimic Tear boss has several tricks up its sleeve that will make the battle difficult, defeating it is worth the effort, as it rewards the players with the 13th and 14th Larval Tears. To find the 15th Larval Tear in Nokron, players should make their way north of the Night's Sacred Ground or south of the Ancestral Woods Site of Grace, where they will come upon an iron ball inside a large building. Depending on the approach, the building can be accessed via stairs or rooftops. Defeating the ball will yield the Tear.

Nokstella expands on Nokron's idea of inanimate enemies and adds more flavor to its mysterious setting by introducing another three ball-shaped Larval bearers. Starting at the Nokstella, Eternal City Site of Grace, players should head northwest in the direction of the bridge visible in the distance. They will notice an iron ball slowly descending a winding staircase as soon as they reach the bridge. Defeating it will allow the players to claim the 16th Larval Tear. Afterward, they should enter the building to the right-hand side in order to retrieve the 17th Larval Tear from another ball, while scaling the stairs will lead them to the third iron ball and the final 18th Larval Tear.
