Kyle Chandler Eyes Powers Role

FX is courting Friday Night Lights star Kyle Chandler for the lead role in Powers, an adaptation of the long-running comic series by Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming.

Deadline reports that Chandler, who turned down several pilots this season, won't commit until he's read a new draft of the script, which is expected to be rewritten to incorporate notes from the veteran actor.

Greenlit by FX last month, the Powers pilot is written by Charles “Chic” Eglee, former executive producer of The Walking Dead, and directed by executive producer Michael Dinner (Justified, Sons of Anarchy).

Debuting in 2000 from Image Comics, Powers follows the lives of Christian Walker and Deena Pilgrim, homicide detectives who investigate cases involving “powers” (people with superhuman abilities) in a world where superheroes and supervillains are common. The series continued at Image until 2004, when it moved under Marvel’s Icon banner.

Battlestar Galactica alum Katee Sackhoff emerged as an early possibility for the role of Deena Pilgrim, tweeting that "I love it! I’ve just been waiting for a green light to go after it!” However, she was cast just last week in the A&E pilot Longmire.

FX Networks President John Landgraf told TVLine he hopes to begin production on the Powers pilot "somewhere between late May and early July," with an eye toward a premiere in early 2012. The series is a co-production of Sony and FX Productions.
