Apple TV+'s Godzilla series will see the father-son duo Kurt and Wyatt Russell share the screen.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Apple TV+'s upcoming Godzilla series -- which is set within Legendary's MonsterVerse -- has added both Kurt and Wyatt Russell to its cast. At this time, however, it's unclear if the two will actually be portraying a father and son on the show, as their roles are being kept under wraps. The Russells join co-stars Anna Sawai, Ren Watabe, Kiersey Clemons, Joe Tippett and Elisa Lasowski.

A legendary actor, Kurt Russell is known for his role as Snake Plissken in John Carpenter's 1981 film Escape from New York and its 1996 sequel, Escape from L.A.. He also portrayed R.J. MacReady in Carpenter's 1982 thriller The Thing. Wyatt Russell, meanwhile, has appeared in such films as Overlord and 22 Jump Street.

Both actors are also members of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with Kurt Russell having portrayed Ego the Living Planet in the 2017 film Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, while Wyatt Russell portrayed John Walker/U.S. Agent in the 2021 Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. The father-son duo technically shared the screen in the aforementioned Escape from L.A., in which a young Wyatt Russell had an uncredited cameo.

Set after the events of Legendary's 2014 film Godzilla, Apple TV+'s upcoming MonsterVerse series will "follow a family's journey to uncover its buried secrets and a legacy linking them to the secret organization known as Monarch." The series is created by Chris Black and Matt Fraction, the former of whom serves as showrunner. WandaVision's Matt Shakman has been tapped to direct the show's first two episodes. Production reportedly kicked off the week of Jan. 30.

2014's Godzilla was the first film in Legendary's MonsterVerse. The franchise continued with 2017's Kong: Skull Island, 2019's Godzilla: King of the Monsters and 2021's Godzilla vs. Kong. A sequel to Godzilla vs. Kong is currently slated for release on March 15, 2024. In addition to Apple TV+'s live-action Godzilla-centric series, a MonsterVerse anime series titled Skull Island is currently in the works for Netflix.

Apple TV+ and Legendary's Godzilla-centric MonsterVerse series does not currently have a premiere date.
