"Bastard Executioner," Kurt Sutter's followup to "Sons of Anarchy," has been picked up for a 10-episode season by FX.

The period drama follows Wilkin Brattle (Lee Jones), a knight broken by the ravages of war who tries to lay down the sword and take up the life of a farmer, only to be forced into bloodshed again. It also stars Stephen Moyer, Katey Sagal, Flora Spencer-Longhurst, Sam Spruell, Darren Evans, Danny Sapani, Timothy V. Murphy, Sarah White, Sarah Sweeney, Elen Rhys, Ethan Griffiths, Matthew Rhys and Sutter himself.

"I love history. I love theology. I love blood. It's been very satisfying weaving fact and fiction to create a new mythology that combines all these elements," Sutter said in a statement. "And with this extraordinary cast -- Stephen Moyer, Katey Sagal and newcomer, Lee Jones -- this world explodes on screen."

Sutter wrote the script for the pilot, which was directed by Paris Barclay, and will produce alongside Brian Grazer, Francie Calfo and Barclay.
