‘Kung Fu Panda 3’ Kicks Out Record Openings in U.S. and China

“Kung Fu Panda 3” earned $41 million in its opening weekend, unseating Leonardo DiCaprio’s “The Revenant” from the top of the North America box office.

The DreamWorks Animation sequel also smashed the January opening-weekend record for an animated movie set in 2014 by “The Nut Job,” which raked in $19.4 million. The Jack Black comedy adventure also scored the largest-ever opening for an animated film in China with $57 million.
