'Kung Fu Panda 3' Channels 'Star Wars' in New Promo

DreamWorks Animation wisely moved "Kung Fu Panda 3" out of the path of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," but the studio is also shrewd enough to try to seize onto the excitement for the sci-fi sequel.

The latest promo for the animated film, titled "A Father Rises," opens with a dark screen, familiar deep breathing and a declaration of "I am your father," before revealing Po and his seriously out-of-shape father (voiced by Bryan Cranston).

Directed by Jennifer Yuh Nelson and Alessandro Carloni, the animated action comedy sees Po (Jack Black) reunite with his biological father and travel to a secret panda paradise. But when the evil spirit Kai (J.K. Simmons) sweeps across China, defeating all the kung fu masters and stealing their powers, Po must do the impossible: learn to train a village filled with his fun-loving, clumsy brethren to become the ultimate band of Kung Fu pandas.

Opening Jan. 29, “Kung Fu Panda 3″ also stars Angelina Jolie, Dustin Hoffman, Jackie Chan, Seth Rogen, Lucy Liu, David Cross, James Hong, Randall Duk Kim and Rebel Wilson.
