Syfy has announced the renewal of its Superman prequel Krypton ahead of its Season 1 finale on Wednesday.
Set two generations before the destruction of Superman's home world, Krypton follows the Man of Steel's grandfather Seg-El (Cameron Cuffe), a young man who's torn between saving his planet from the threat of Brainiac, or ensure the future of his legendary grandson.
Averaging 1.8 million total viewers in live-plus three ratings, Krypton has Syfy its most-watched debut for an original series since 2014, and its most-watched season for any scripted series since Defiance in 2015.
In its first season, the sci-fi drama has not only reimagined aspects of Superman's home world and its history, but also introduced new takes on such familiar DC comics characters as Adam Strange, General Zod, Brainiac and Doomsday.
In Wednesday's Season 1 finale, "The Phantom Zone," Seg and his allies may not only confront the imminent threat posed to Kandor by the arrival of Brainiac, but also the ticking time bomb that lurks somewhere beneath the city in the form of the unkillable Doomsday.
Airing Wednesdays at 10 p.m. ET/PT on Syfy, Krypton stars Cameron Cuffe as Seg-El, Shaun Sipos as Adam Strange, Georgina Campbell as Lyta-Zod, Elliot Cowan as Daron-Vex, Ann Ogbomo as Jayna-Zod, Rasmus Hardiker as Kem, Wallis Day as Nyssa-Vex, Aaron Pierre as Dev-Em, Ian McElhinney as Val-El and Blake Ritson as Brainiac.
