It's official: Hasbro and Lionsgate are teaming up to bring My Little Pony to the big screen in the toymaker's first animated feature.

Penned by "My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic" writer/producer Meghan McCarthy, the film will star Tony winner Kristin Chenoweth as the voice of a new character. Tara Strong, Cathy Weseluck, Andrea Libman, Tabitha St. Germain and Ashleigh Ball will reprise their roles as the Mane 6 ponies.

Plans for the adaptation were originally announced in October, but that was well before Hasbro partnered with Lionsgate last month to distribute the long-brewing "Monopoly" movie.

In the film, a new dark force threatens Ponyville, leading Twilight Sparkle, Applejack, Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie, Fluttershy and Rarity to embark on a journey beyond Equestria to save their home. Jayson Theissen will direct.
