"Superman: World of New Krypton" #1 on sale in March

Yesterday, DC announced a new writing team for "Superman: World of New Krypton" a month before the first issue was to arrive in stores.

James Robinson and Greg Rucka are now writing the super-centric 12-issue miniseries, but no mention was made of Andrew Kreisberg, the Hollywood scribe originally slated to write the title.

Kreisberg, who joined the writing staff of FOX's top-rated series "Fringe" the first week of January, told CBR News Wednesday night he had not been removed from "Superman: World of New Krypton," he was simply 'too busy' to participate in a year-long story arc that crosses over with "Action Comics," "Superman," "Supergirl" and "Adventure Comics."

"I joined 'Fringe,' I have a pilot with Touchstone and when I was originally offered the job, I had no idea how intricate it was going to be with the other books," explained Kreisberg, whose TV credits include "Eli Stone, "Boston Legal" and "The Simpsons."

"It started becoming, in a great way, this unwieldy thing where anything I said in my book had to be reflected in someone else's book. And if I'm crafting a story and James [Robinson] or Sterling [Gates] decide they need a character to come from Krypton to Earth, well then I can't use him in anymore," continued Kreisberg. "The only way to make that work was for everybody to be getting together and for conference calls and a big story meeting in New York and between my pilot and being on Fringe full-time and writing 'Green Arrow/Black Canary,' I just didn't have the time to do it all."

With speculation rampant on message board and forums, Kreisberg wanted to put all rumors to rest, quickly.

Andrew Kreisberg will continue to write "Green Arrow/Black Canary"

"I was not booted off the book (laughs). In fact, [editor] Matt Idelson and I are talking about doing something else right now," said Kreisberg. "It's was not a question of the time it takes to write a book, it was a question of the time it takes to write a book that is essentially part of five interlocking books where I would need to be talking to everybody all of the time.

"I missed two conference calls because for one, I was busy with 'Fringe' and the other, I was busy with my pilot and I just didn't realize I had said, 'yes' to something that I just couldn't be a part of."

Despite being off the book, Kreisberg still can't wait to pick up "Superman: World of New Krypton" #1 on March 11 and following along with the series through 2010.

"For the brief amount of time that I got to work with Sterling and James and Greg, I am privy to know what going to happen and the readers are going to be blown away," said Kreisberg. "I am tragically going from co-conspirator to big-time fan."

"Green Arrow/Black Canary" #17, Kreisberg's third issue as regular writer, hits shelves next week.
