The Legend of Korra gave its fans something they had longed to see ever since they saw Aang talk about his past in the Air Nation. After the Harmonic Convergence, Korra let the portals to the Spirit World stay open and that, somehow, brought back the Air Nation.
Several non-benders from around the world suddenly started to airbend. This opened up a whole new world of what the airbenders could do and fans finally got to see what the life of an Air Nomad looked like. With Tenzin as their teacher, the airbenders became experts at airbending.
10 Kai vs Dai Li Agent: Kai used his airbending skills to defeat the guard & got payback for all the time he had held him hostage
Kai was captured by Dai Li agents when he was in Ba Sing Se. He was to be made a part of the Earth Queen's first airbending regiment, along with other airbenders the agents had captured. The Dai Li agent who kept watch over them was very strict and treated them all harshly.
When Jinora, Mako, and Bolin came to rescue him, they had to face the agent who was proving to be very strong. He caught Jinora by her hair which kicked Kai into gear. He used his airbending skills to defeat the guard and got payback for all the time he had held him hostage.
9 Korra vs Amon: it was the moment when Korra could finally bend air
This fight was one of the most memorable moments of the show because it was the moment when Korra could finally bend air. After Amon took away her bending, Mako came to rescue her and fought him. However, he was too powerful for the young firebender and was about to take away his bending.
Just then, Korra tried to stop him and shot a blast of air from her hands that threw him backward. A fight ensued and she threw another more powerful blast of air towards him that threw him out of the window into the sea below, thus defeating him.
8 Airbenders vs Kidnappers: Kai & Jinora were captured by a group of kidnappers while wandering around in the forest
Kai and Jinora were wandering around the forest where the sky bison herds were when they got captured by a group of kidnappers that had put many baby bison in cages and intended to transport them all to the Earth Kingdom. Kai picked the lock of his cage and was about to free the others when he was attacked by one of the kidnappers.
He retaliated by shooting him with a blast of air. At that moment, all the other airbenders arrived at the scene and started attacking the bad guys. One of the kidnappers fled with a truck and Jinora in it, but Kai followed them on his glider. Tenzin also followed on a sky bison and together, they defeated that kidnapper.
7 Opal & Jinora Against Kuvira's Soldiers: It seemed like Kuvira would finish off Korra, but that was until Opal & Jinora stepped in
In the first fight between Korra and Kuvira, Korra had still not recovered enough to be able to beat Kuvira. She was much stronger than the Avatar and pummeled her mercilessly. It seemed like Kuvira would finish off Korra, but that was until Opal and Jinora stepped in.
The duo threw Kuvira back with a blast of air, and the Kuvira ordered her soldiers to attack them. They stirred up a tornado with their airbending, incapacitating all the soldiers who were trying to attack them, giving Jinora enough time to call for help.
6 Meelo Against Kuvira's Soldiers: Meelo fought & kept everyone at bay
After Jinora called for help, Meelo and Ikki came riding on their sky bison to rescue the others from the army. Meelo landed the bison and started fighting against all the soldiers, who got past the tornado and were trying to get to them.
While he fought and kept everyone at bay, Opal and Jinora picked up Korra and brought her to where Ikki was waiting for them. They then flew away from the scene.
5 Airbenders vs Zaheer: While in a tornado, Korra defeated Zaheer before collapsing
In the final battle between Korra and Zaheer, Korra had been weakened due to the poison running through her system. Zaheer had the upper hand and started to airbend all the air out of her lungs to kill her.
That is when the airbenders stepped in and stirred up a giant tornado, pulling both of them towards it. He tried to take the Avatar and fly away from it, but its pull was too strong and he was pulled into it. While in the tornado, Korra finally defeated him before collapsing.
4 Meelo, Ikki, & Jinora vs Equalists At The Air Temple: Lin tried to fight off the equalists but was no match
The Equalists were predicted to attack the Air Temple island where a heavily pregnant Pema and her children were. Lin promised to protect them all while Tenzin was not around. When the Equalists came, she tried to fight them off but was no match for so many people at once, and was knocked out.
Suddenly, Meelo, Jinora, and Ikki arrived on their air scooters and started fighting. Lin asked them to go inside but when she saw that they were actually winning, she was impressed. They managed to defeat them all.
3 Zaheer vs Tenzin: one of the most iconic battles in the entire show
Zaheer became quite an expert at airbending even though he had gotten his powers after the Harmonic Convergence. On the other hand, Tenzin was an airbending master who had been trained by Avatar Aang personally. Yet, those two were pretty evenly matched throughout the fight.
Tenzin might have defeated Zaheer if it had not been for the intervention of the other Red Lotus members. This battle was considered one of the most iconic battles in the entire show.
2 Airbenders vs Giant Mecha Suit: The airbenders blasted it with air to make it knock over, almost succeeding
When Kuvira attacked Republic City in her gigantic Mecha Suit, the others were at a loss as to how to defeat it. Meelo was suddenly struck with the idea of throwing paint balloons on the screens of the suit so that she could not view anything.
The airbenders flew around the suit and threw the balloons. Bolin started to melt the mecha suit’s foot by using lava bending while the twins tied its legs. The airbenders then all proceeded to blast it with air to make it knock over. They almost succeeded too!
1 Airbenders Deflected The Mecha Suit’s Weapon: the airbenders formed a giant tornado mid-air & attacked
The Mecha Suit carried a giant weapon in its arm that shot out a beam of devastating spirit energy. In the final fight, Kuvira aimed her weapon at Korra to take out the Avatar once and for all.
All the airbenders formed a giant tornado mid-air and attacked the arm from above, causing it to aim downwards toward the ground. This deflected the attack and caused the mecha suit to stumble backward, missing its aim.
