In a recent internal restructure, Konami announced that it will dissolve all three of its production divisions.

"The announcement made refers to an internal restructure, with Production Divisions being consolidated. We have not 'shut down' our video gaming division," Konami said in a statement. The digital entertainment company announced via its website that Konami would dissolve all production divisions "to respond to the rapid market that surrounds us" in an effort to restructure the company. This will occur on Feb. 1, 2021.

The announcement also stated structural and personnel changes and included the appointments of Hideki Hayakawa as the chief operating officer, Shoji Dewa as senior executive officer and Koji Kobayashi as executive officer. All personal will take on their new roles within the company starting in February. Certain members from the dissolved production divisions will be moved to general production and product support.

The video game giant, which celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2019, has released classic titles like Metal GearCastlevania and Silent Hill. Recently, the company re-released select titles from the Metal Gear and Silent Hill series on PC, as well as a Konami Collector's SeriesCastlevania and Contra, also for PC. However, the company has been particularly absent from mainstream gaming in recent years and has killed off many of its flagship franchises, routinely denying reboots of the aforementioned classic titles.
