Konami announced a new bionic arm for below the elbow amputees modeled after the prosthetic arm Venom Snake wears in Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pains.

According to a Konami press release, the Japanese entertainment and gambling company collaborated with the U.K. based prosthetics company Open Bionics to bring Venom Snakes prosthetic arm into the real world.

The Metal Gear Solid bionic arm is compatible with Open Bionic's Hero Arm line of prosthetics and easily clips on. The first recipient of the new design is Daniel Melville, a 29-year-old resident of the U.K. who was born without his right hand. Hero Arm is Open Bionics' line of lightweight prosthetics with haptic feedback and muscle sensors that give users proportional control.

Every Hero Arm is custom made and fitted for its individual user with different hand sizes and arm layouts available. Prior to the Metal Gear Solid design, Open Bionics produced Hero Arms inspired by Frozen, Star Wars, Iron Man and Alita: Battle Angel.

Venom Snake, the protagonist of Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pains, loses his arm when attackers destroy his mother base. After a lengthy recovery in the hospital and a harrowing escape when the hospital is attacked, Venom Snake is fitted with the prosthetic Open Bionics modeled their real-life bionic arm after.
