Star Wars has always been a series about unexpected resurrections. We see characters like Obi-Wan Kenobi struck down by Darth Vader, but he returns as a helpful spirit, allowing Luke to complete his heroic journey. Likewise, we see Yoda pass away and then return to taunt Luke when Skywalker has become an old man. Finally, there’s the resurrection of certain stories. For better or for worse, there are certain Star Wars tropes that always come back. It will always be Light Side vs. Dark Side, and it will always be Rebels against Empire. And the bad guys will always find the money for another giant ball that blows planets up!

So because of all these resurrections, fans shouldn’t have been that surprised to see that Clone Wars got a new lease on life. This hit Cartoon Network series lasted for five regular seasons, and then had some of its finished episodes released as the “lost missions” of a sixth season. Now, the show is coming back for a seventh and final season and you can watch the teaser right now, but it’s delightfully frustrating. If you’re looking to learn what the season is all about, that trailer is likely to give you more questions than answers. Don’t worry, though -- we looked at the footage and can answer some of the questions the trailer lays out. We consulted our blue Force Ghost friends, double-checked the missing info from the Jedi archives, and came up with this solid list of Star Wars secrets. If you’re ready for this knowledge to dominate your destiny, keep reading to learn all about 15 things we already know about the seventh season of the Clone Wars!

15 HOW MANY EPISODES?

Star Wars fans can often be a bit greedy. It’s not such a bad thing, as this is a sign of how much they love their fandom. So, when the announcement went out that fans would be getting more Clone Wars, there was one question that needed an answer: “How many episodes are we getting?”

The answer is pretty simple: 12. This has caused much fan speculation, as it seems to only leave room for three or four major story arcs. Hardcore Clone Wars fans already know about many storylines that were planned and later ditched (including some that would re-canonize the Yuuzhan Vong), but we’ll have to wait and see how many (if any) of these known stories will be used.

14 WHERE CAN I WATCH?

Star Wars: The Clone Wars

We don’t yet know exactly when you’ll be able to watch these episodes beyond a nebulous Disney promise that it would be sometime in 2019. However, in an age of streaming versus cable, another question is worth asking: Where will you be able to watch it?

The answer is that this will be available as part of Disney’s upcoming streaming service. Like other companies and brands (including CBS as well as DC Comics), Disney wants to have their own subscribers for their own streaming app. And the hope is that high-quality, original content like this will be enough to lure people in.

13 THE MASTER RETURNS

Dave Filoni holds a Mandalorian helmet

It’s not a surprise to realize that Clone Wars (and Rebels after it) only managed to achieve that level of success thanks to the creative team behind it. So, when the show’s return was announced, many fans were understandably curious as to who would be manning the show this time around.

Those fans can rest easy, though. Dave Filoni will be picking up the reins of this show once again. He helped to shepherd the original Clone Wars cartoon to international fame, and as showrunner for Rebels, he proved he’s no one-trick wonder. Now, he’s back to help finish the story that he began.

12 A PERILOUS SIEGE

As we said earlier, both Disney and Filoni are being tight-lipped about what stories this season will focus on. Filoni went as far as to say he deliberately cut a trailer that would fuel endless fan speculation. One thing is for certain, though: we’re going to see the Siege of Mandalore.

This is interesting news for several different reasons. First, any excuse to focus on the fan-favorite Mandalorians is fine by us. Second, it will be cool to finally see some of this famous battle on-screen. Finally, in terms of chronology, this siege is near the very end of the war, so this will fill in some of the gaps in our knowledge of major canonical events.

11 SNIPS RETURNS

Star Wars: The Clone Wars

As great as the creative team behind Clone Wars animation is, there is one group that helps breathe life into the characters like no other: the actors! With Clone Wars returning, many fans were curious if we would be hearing some familiar voices to go along with our familiar faces.

One returning actor is Ashley Eckstein, who is once again voicing the character of Ahsoka Tano. When we last saw her in Clone Wars, she got fed up with the Jedi after she was framed and nearly convicted or murder and left the Order. She popped up later in Rebels, but this new season may show how she got from point A to point B.

10 SKY GUY FLIES HIGH

Star Wars: The Clone Wars

Anakin Skywalker is arguably the main character of the Clone Wars cartoon. At the very least, he benefits the most from these stories: Fans getting to see Anakin’s many feats of selfless heroism in the show can appreciate his fall from grace in the movies that much more.

Fortunately, Matt Lanter will once again be voicing this character. We last saw Anakin in more of a support role, as he helped Yoda start a quest in which he ultimately learned how to become a Force ghost from Qui-Gonn’s own spirit. Somehow, we’re confident that Anakin will take a more prominent role in these new episodes.

9 HELLO THERE!

Obi-Wan is our other primary character throughout the Clone Wars. We get to see his growing relationship with Anakin Skywalker, which adds additional tragedy to their inevitable fallout. And from time to time, we even get to see rare hints of romance and recklessness from the normally-staid Jedi Master.

Lucky for fans, James Taylor is returning as the voice of Obi-Wan Kenobi. Like Anakin, his last appearance in the series was lowkey, as he helps receive Yoda when the elder Master returns from his journey of discovery. With 12 more episodes on the horizon, we think that Obi-Wan will be jumping back into the center of the fray.

8 THE BAD BATCH IS BACK

Like we said before, there are a few Clone Wars episodes and characters that exist in a kind of dead zone. These are episodes that were planned, written, and sometimes even partially animated before plans for future seasons were originally pulled. One series of episodes concerned the “Bad Batch.”

This is a group of Clone Troopers who developed special abilities as they matured, and these abilities help them in combat. These characters and their story were revealed as story reel “episodes” previously, but now they will be returning in fully animated form as part of the seventh season of the show!

7 BO-KATAN IS BACK

While some fans liked it and others didn’t, Clone Wars helped to shine a spotlight on Mandalorian characters and culture. One of these characters was Bo-Katan Kryze, who served in the Death Watch while her sister served as a duchess. Fans of this character got to see more of her in the Rebels show, where she received the Darksaber and became Mand’alore, the martial leader of her culture.

While we don’t know much about this new season, we know that Bo-Katan will be returning. Like Ahsoka, what will be interesting in her return is seeing how Filoni helps bridge the gaps between what we already know of her character. Wherever the story goes, we’re interesting in getting more Mandalorian development.

6 ECHO LIVES?

One funny aspect of clone life the show addressed was the need for clone nicknames. You can only refer to someone by their super-long alphanumeric code so many times before it just gets old! That’s why CT-21-0408 got the nickname “Echo”-- that, and his tendency to obnoxiously echo rules and regulations.

When we last saw Echo, he had been downed in action after performing many heroic deeds. Or did he? After the show appeared to be over for good, showrunner Dave Filoni confirmed that Echo managed to survive his apparent demise. Now, it appears that Echo will be returning for season seven, and we’ll see more of his developing relationship with Captain Rex.

5 MIND THE GAP

Part of what made Clone Wars such a creative challenge was that the potential timeline for stories was limited. Everything had to effectively take place between Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith. Therefore, eagle-eyed fans were always watching for signs that we were edging closer to the end of these characters’ stories.

Well, in more ways than one, the end is near. Remember how we mentioned that this would include the Siege of Mandalore? Because that was near the end of the war, some fans think this season will lead directly into Revenge of the Sith. It may even end with a droid attack on Coruscant, which would be a great nod to the original 2D Clone Wars cartoon.

4 DOGFIGHTS

Different people love Star Wars for many different reasons. Some of them love the characters, while others love the Force and the other hints of mysticism. And, of course, some people just really groove on lightsaber battles. Another group is much simpler with their love of spaceships and space battles.

Well good news for them, as it looks like we’ll be getting a lot more of that. Even in the short season seven teaser, we can see a lot of the Arc-170 spaceship. This ship was like a precursor to the X-Wing, and we saw it most prominently in the beginning of Revenge of the Sith. So, if you love space battles, this may be a season worth watching!

3 NEW ANIMATION

We’ve talked a bit about the idea that this season will be closer to Revenge of the Sith than ever before. In order to realize that, it’s handy to know trivia about Star Wars timelines and battles. Of course, you might be able to use something more basic -- a keen set of eyes.

If you look closely at Obi-Wan and Anakin in the teaser, they look a little different than they did in earlier seasons. Some of this may be due to advancements or changes in animation, but a large part of it seems to be that they are looking a little older. In other words, the passage of time in this season may be as plain as the CGI on their faces!

2 THE BEGINNING OF THE END

While we're all eagerly awaiting the Siege of Mandalore during this season, some eagle-eyed fans noticed something else. During the teaser, it looked like we were going to see the beginning of all of the Outer Rim Sieges, which plays a big part in Star Wars mythology.

As far as the Republic and Jedi were concerned, these sieges were a good thing. They were effectively pushing their enemies out of the Core and further away from Coruscant. However, having the Jedi scattered to the far corners of the galaxy was all part of Palpatine’s plan, and it made executing Order 66 that much easier.

1 BAD GETS A NEW TAILOR

Watching the prequel movies and cartoons is fun because you can see the subtle beginnings of Imperial design. From clone armor to starship design, you can see how easily we end up with the familiar designs of the original trilogy and, you guessed it, we’ll likely see more of that in the next season.

If you watch the teaser carefully enough, you can see some of the Republic officers wearing what are clearly Imperial uniforms. It’s a small detail, but a nice reminder that the Empire didn’t have to end anyone except the Jedi. Many of those loyal Republic citizens willingly became Imperial servants, pretty much overnight.
