In Knockout City, there's more to scoring KOs than simply dodging and catching. Knockout City offers a much more hectic and high-octane breed of action than the average gym class, and Special Balls are a core element of this. While the training tutorials offer a breakdown of what each of them does, it can be difficult to take those tips and apply them to the chaotic matches. So, some added analysis might be needed to unlock the potential of these game-changing balls.

Other PvP multiplayer games give players a chance to prep a loadout before jumping into the action, but Knockout City functions more like a battle royale where the only available tools are found on the ground. In addition to the standard red rubber dodgeball, each match randomly features one of the five unique Special Balls. Knowing how to use these balls and defend against them is important in finding success in Knockout City.

Cage Ball

The Cage Ball is definitely one to look out for in the arena. When hit with one, a player will be locked inside for a short period of time, totally defenseless. Offensively, the Cage Ball is best used near the map's edges and hazards. Throwing a caged opponent out of the field of play gives an instant KO, but it is essential to make sure they don't break free and glide back to safety. To ensure they don't, players should aim straight down or shoot them with a lob shot, sending caged enemies into the abyss. Alternatively, caged enemies are easy targets but will be freed after one hit. While any dodgeball is fine if they have one heart left, using a balled-up teammate is an easy instant KO. When on defense, players should look out for caged teammates as they can be used for an Ultimate Throw, creating a powerful counter-attack as well as freeing them.

Moon Ball

The Moon Ball is an interesting tool to have on the battlefield. When picked up, the Moon Ball affects the player's movements, reducing the force of gravity. With the Moon Ball, players can get the drop on enemies thanks to higher jumps and increased air time. By firing on opponents from directly above or catching them by surprise with unexpected appearances, players can get the drop on their opponents for some easy hits. Players will be launched into the air when hit with the Moon Ball, making them an easy target for a second follow-up attack. When in enemy hands, players should keep their eyes up so that they don't get caught off guard.

Sniper Ball

The Sniper Ball acts exactly how it sounds. From long-range, players can lock onto an opponent and launch a powerful direct throw. Players will need to make sure they have a clear line of sight or their shot will be blocked by the environment. While the Sniper Ball is primarily a sharpshooter, it does offer some versatility. If thrown lightly, the ball will slowly float towards the enemy, which can score a hit if they're not paying attention. When targeted by the Sniper Ball, players need to remember that they are tracked through obstacles. If caught in their cross-hairs, players should make sure they take cover and look to flank.

Multi Ball

The Multi Ball is perhaps the most basic of the Special Balls, allowing players to hold three balls at once. It can be a powerful tool in resupplying teammates, able to arm an entire team ready to strike. With the extra balls at hand, players can release quick barrages at the opponent, best used at close range to make up for the lack of charging time. When on the receiving end of the Multi Ball, dodging can be a better tactic than trying to catch all of the incoming throws.

Bomb Ball

The Bomb Ball can be a tricky ball to master and a nuisance to avoid. The key for players using the Bomb Ball to its full potential is to learn its countdown timing and knowing how long they have until detonation. As such, players should be careful to time their throws, as it could easily be caught and returned just in time to explode. One trick is to use the Bomb Ball as a sticky bomb rather than looking for direct hits. It will stick to surfaces, meaning that players could throw it on a wall ready for unsuspecting opponents to wander into its area of effect. However, players need to be extra careful as the Bomb Ball can cause harm to teammates caught in its blast.

With these extra street smarts, players should be ready to charge into Knockout City and pick up some wins. Plus, with Velan Studios and Electronic Arts dedicated to keeping the game active and updated, players should keep an eye out for new Special Balls that could drop with new updates and consider how they could change the game.
