It looks like Benoit Blanc is on to the next case, as a Knives Out sequel is currently in the works from writer/director Rian Johnson.

While speaking with The Hollywood Reporter at Lionsgate's pre-Golden Globes party, Johnson revealed he is currently developing a sequel to his hit 2019 mystery comedy film. According to the Star Wars: The Last Jedi director, the second Knives Out film will focus on southern detective Benoit Blanc -- played by James Bond actor Daniel Craig -- as he attempts to solve a new case. Knives Out co-producer Ram Bergman explains Craig is excited to reprise the role. "Daniel had so much fun doing it, and he wants to do more," he said.

What's more, Johnson evidently wants to get the sequel made quickly -- within the next year. And while a follow-up to Knives Out has not officially been greenlit by Lionsgate as of yet, it likely won't take much convincing to turn Johnson's comedy into a franchise. The first film, after all, enjoyed a $247 million worldwide box office haul against a $40 million budget. Lionsgate chairman Joe Drake also told THR he is looking forward to reading the script.

Written, produced and directed by Rian Johnson, Knives Out stars Daniel Craig, Chris Evans, Lakeith Stanfield, Michael Shannon, Don Johnson, Ana de Armas, and Jamie Lee Curtis, Jaeden Martell, Katherine Langford, Frank Oz, Toni Collette, Christopher Plummer, and Riki Lindhome. The film is in theaters now.
