Benoit Blanc will return for more donuts in the sequel to Rian Johnson's surprise hit Knives Out.

The sequel, according to Vulture, will feature Daniel Craig's central detective solving an all-new case, as opposed to being a prequel about his life or a sequel to the events of the first film. This implies that the Knives Out series will be more of an Agatha Christie-style "singular mystery" collection, with Craig's Blanc being the connective tissue.

Christie's novels are currently being adapted by Kenneth Branagh, who is following up 2017's Murder on the Orient Express with this year's Death on the Nile. Both series feature stellar all-star ensemble casts, but Johnson's script was praised for being reminiscent of classic mystery novels while still featuring a sense of originality and modern sensibilities.

Knives Out, which featured Blanc solving the mystery of a murdered rich family patriarch, was a rare financial success considering its status as a wholly original property, and earned Johnson an Oscar nomination for Best Original Screenplay. News of a sequel appeared as recently as January of this year.
