Kit Harington Auditions With Toothless From How to Train Your Dragon

Kit Harington is an actor who knows his dragons. In HBO's Game of Thrones, he plays Jon Snow, whose epic journey through the last seven seasons has led him to become ally and love interest to the Mother of Dragons -- not to mention revealing some dragon-related secrets about his own heritage. Now the question is: can he train a dragon?

DreamWorks TV has released a video of the "long-lost audition tapes" featuring Harington acting alongside Toothless, the CGI star of the How to Train Your Dragon series. Harington played the villain Eret in the second movie of the franchise and will return for How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World, but his audition shown here is for "Untitled Fantasy TV Drama" and backdated to September 2010 -- right about the time Harington would have been cast for Game of Thrones.

Harington appears to be trying his best to portray a grave, brooding warrior, but his mischievous co-star doesn't make it easy for him. "Dragon, show yourself," he reads from his lines, only for Toothless to bound onto the set, knock him over and proceed to chew on a microphone stand.

Despite the dragon's antics, however, Harington seems to develop a fondness for him -- confiding in him, tossing him a fishy snack and even reaching out to make a connection in a recreation of the touching scene between Toothless and Hiccup in the first Dragons movie. The results are a little less touching for Harington, but at least he gets the part in his fantasy TV drama and may even have a shot at someday attaining Toothless's level of fame.

How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World will hit theaters in February 2019. Written and directed by Dean DeBlois, the film stars the voices of Jay Baruchel, Cate Blanchett, Craig Ferguson, America Ferrera, Jonah Hill, Kit Harington, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, T. J. Miller, Kristen Wiig and F. Murray Abraham.
