When Marvel and Netflix's first season of "Daredevil" premiered back in 2015, one of the standout performances was clearly Vincent D'Onofrio's portrayal of Wilson Fisk, aka Kingpin. In fact, talks of possible Emmy consideration began to ramp up following the first season's debut -- so it was initially surprising for many fans to learn that D'Onofrio wouldn't be back in as large of a capacity for the show's second season, as the series would instead turn their focus to characters like Elektra and the Punisher. It was then later confirmed that the fan-favorite character wouldn't be returning for the epic mini-series, "The Defenders," either as showrunners Marco Ramirez and Douglas Petrie decided to bring in a new villain for the heroes to battle. This decision left many fans to presume they'd definitely be seeing him in this year's "The Punisher." Well, according to the man himself, that won't be the case.

Taking to Twitter, D'Onofrio answered a fan's question regarding the possible inclusion of his beloved villain in the forthcoming series, "The Punisher." Instead of forgoing the usual "No comment" answer most Marvel actors give when asked about their character's future, D'Onofrio flat out said Fisk would not be a part of Frank's solo series. Mind you, D'Onofrio's answer is so direct that he could in fact be joking. We won't really know until the series drops on Netflix later this year...

With the seconds season of "Jessica Jones" set to enter production following "The Defenders" and "The Punisher," it appears viewers won't see D'Onofrio back as Fisk until the third season of "Daredevil."

"The Punisher" stars Jon Bernthal as the titular character, Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, Amber Rose Revah as Dinah Madani, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as David Lieberman/Microshop. Although a release date hasn't been officially announced, the series is expected to debut on Netflix sometime this year.
